The current situation is not about Gay rights etc, it is wedge politics which the religious right wing is using in this country and the US. The trouble is it may have been a big issue in the past now it is evenly spread and will slap them in the face as it won't be a vote winner. For everyone who is for it another person will be against it.

Homosexuality is not such a big deal these days. Many people have friends who are openly homosexual and it does not bother them.
