They cannot do anything as under the current laws what they are doing is legal.

2007 the new laws come in place where you can opt out. Mind you I believe if you want to be harrased you should be able to opt in.

Interesting, on the Telstra internal website today, it had a story about this as well.

They mentioned that they have approached the ACCC

and it's not the company that pranks you that charges the excessive amount, it's when you dial the premium 1900 number. To call back the number that pranked you, is charged at a local call if you are in the same state, if you ring interstate, then it's at std rates.

Always beware of premium numbers.

Some of you people must have been unloved as children.
Why would you even reply to an unknown number? Do you need to know that someone out there wants to converse with you? Is it really that important?
Here's the phone/mobile set-up in the Eunos household.
2 mobiles, both numbers only known by a select few people. Both have voicemail so anyone who wants to leave a message can do so.
Landline, answering machine answers ALL calls. Every person we need/want to talk to knows we do not lift the receiver unless they talk after the tone.
We do not get interrupted at meal times. We do not get interrupted during........I won't go there. We do not get unwanted phone charges.
It is the perfect system.

I got an unknown call once with Telstra Pre-Paid, since I switched to Virgin I have not gotten one. Only a few people I know have my number so I need not worry. And if a friend called, or a family member called, I'd assume they would leave a message.

If not then it wasn't important, and I don't bother worrying about it.

I have had quite a few missed calls on my phone in the last month or 2 that I have no idea who they are and therefore have not called them back, only 1 is on that list however

Perhaps someone can help out, where would this call be from? (03) 6267****?

The one I got on the list is 0381029573

This continues to gather momentum and if you look at the four wise monkeys website the emails they get from DC Marketing and thier replys are a great read.
