If you get a missed call from one of the following numbers, don't call it back. They will ring once then hang up so you call them back.
If you do, you will be charged $50 as it is an internet number...it says you have won $40 and to call another number....then you will get charged with another $50..
It's been doing the rounds in Canberra....

I've had this twice now.
The first time it was a melbourne number and i think it was 954x xxxx. I called it back from my home phone and figured it was a scam.
The 2nd time was 5th June and the number was
02 8404 2242. I got exactly the same message as the first one. I then called it back again to try and get the company name, but couldn't work it out. I was only charged 28 and 21 cents each for these 2 calls. I called these ones from my work landline phone.
I've just tried to call the number now and funny, it's engaged and sounds disconnected.
the message you do get when you ring these 'prank' calls is
'Hi, did i just call you? Don't hang up.....blah blah blah'

| I don't call anyone back who's number I don't know. Best policy. But this scam is not designed to get me it's designed to get people that do. |

I only called back as I was curious. And yes, once I found out, I tried to find somewhere to report it....alas.....
but thanks Culprit, now I've let 4wm know the number.

Well the 4 wise monkeys started listing the peoples names, numbers and emails and were threatened with legal action. They said bring it on.
DC change numbers etc. Good reading on their site. |
