Tess, i'd hope United Petroleum make a point here...

However, the parasitic vulture which is our government still takes home a large percentage of our $1.30c+ per litre we are paying in TAX.

Can anybody provide us with a link to a site where they show a pie-chart with a breakdown of who gets exactly what portion of the dollar?
My guess is the retailer/service station has the smallest margin, yet they cop all the grief!

i only took down the actual price of the one closest to me, the Blackburn one.

Here are the prices of fuel for that:

Unleaded 128.7
Plus Unleaded 124.7

the other ones listed on the website are around those prices above as well (give or take a few cents)

I've checked the price of fuel in local stations near me (thanks Eunos for that link) and the blackburn prices are 10 cents cheaper.

United Petroleum, which has 150 service stations, is prepared to take 10 cents a litre off its unleaded petrol and plus unleaded petrol brands from now until midnight on Sunday at selected service stations in capital cities.

..but then what happens, after Sunday?

they are hoping that the other petrol stations, controlled by the likes of Coles and Woolworth/Safeway, will come on board.

Next week (not sure if she said weekend or week), they will have more Independent stations cutting the price again. It's not a one off.

It's prices like these I'm thankfull for having a duel fuel car. Gas is the only way I can afford to get around.

I don't want to sound like a "kill joy" but I give independent stations a wide berth, previous experience has taught me quality over quantity.

Also to note; United Petroleum has two new grades of petrol, BOOST 98 (CSR ETHANOL) and PLUS ULP (CSR ETHANOL)...and their regular unleaded.

I personally don't have an issue with added ETHANOL but some other petrol consumer's may.

P.S 2weeks ago petrol was $1.28ltr unleaded, how about, United Petroleum wipe 10c off that price.

Bio Diesel is not too far-away and yes there is a ‘levy’ smacked on it. Also, each year it’s on the commercial market, the levy jumps a (?) %. Yep, good call J.Howard, you greedy little man.

Slight diversion, when the Commonwealth games were here, I noticed a commuter bus (for athletes) that was powered by Hydrogen, yep, I was frothing from the mouth.

The rise that automatically takes place every year is simply to account for inflation. The tax the government levies has not increased in real terms since the prices were 70cents per litre.

The price jumps are mostly due to unashamed opportunism and price fixing on behalf of the major oil traders. Of course the war in Iraq and the bullsh*t posturing of the US against Iran isn't really helping.

Remember tax is not a bad thing ffs, it's what keeps everything running. Would you rather have less tax and have no welfare, no health system, and no cheap meds? ie. Would you want to be living America?
