Anyone know anything about Occupational HEalth and Safety? Do you know anyone that has ever been injured in a work place accident? HOw many people have died in Workplace accidents? Be it for equipment not kept up to standards or poor working conditions.
The Occupational Health and Safety Act 1991 was created by the Union Movement and made an act of Parliament (as well as the State equivalent Acts). This Act is there for the protection of all workers. Most companies are now taking Occupational Health and Safety issues seriously. There are serious penalties for not complying with OH&S laws.
Without the Unions, these Acts would not exist. So, next time you injure yourself at work.....say thank you to the Unions. _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

From my experience the so called silent majority are usually fence sitters. One cant automatically assume that they support the Libs just because they did not rally. They remind me of the selfish people who happily enjoy all the work benefits that the unions have worked so hard for but dont form part of the union movement. The silent majority are not my kind of people. |

The TWU have a supply of giant Condoms to put over cars & vans now for that ultimate protection?
Good news Tess, you could say more bang for your buck..lol |

IR law open to change
Gerard McManus and Ben Packham
18nov05
WORKPLACE Relations Minister Kevin Andrews has opened the door to change some elements of the Government's new industrial relations laws.
Mr Andrews said sensible suggestions from the Senate committee's probe into the changes would be considered.
"There are some things that we actually have in mind ourselves as technical amendments that have arisen in the course of discussions since the Bill came in," Mr Andrews said during a radio debate with Australian Workers' Union secretary Bill Shorten yesterday.
"I've said if there are sensible technical changes that arise from the committee's deliberations then the Government will obviously look at them."
It came as a key employer group disputed federal sex discrimination commissioner Pru Goward's view the Bill could disadvantage women.
The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said workplace reform was good for women.
ACCI chief executive Peter Hendy said 1990s workplace reforms had narrowed the gender pay gap and provided more jobs to working women.
