Yep under the new laws you would have to attend to a doctor. Maybe doctor howlong.

I am an employee now not an employer no more.

Your right about happy workers. Start shafting them they will shaft you.

Howard is all about pushing us down the American system, more working poor.

Is that completely true though? Isn't it up to each business to decide what is suitable for their business? Not all cases will involve an employer making such demands.

that sounds a bit like the fed govt's argument when they offered all universities the "right to decide whether or not they would put course fees up 25%"
have a guess what happened????

PP, you boasted about the navy and then said this "I can honestly say i've never taken a sickie.... i find that mentally deplorable".

you can't change history so, stop justifying your ealier actions and get off ya high horse.

BACK on topic please.

I can have as many edits as i like.....perhaps you could use some to learn to quote correctly.

1. NEVER EVER have i said i was in the Navy! READ MY POST! I boasted that I have never taken a SICKIE...... READ MY POSTS (i find the mentality of those taking 'sickies' deplorable YES!)

And the topic is.....that people won't be able to take sickies......they will need a certificate.... AND YES, I'M PROUD THAT I HAVE NEVER TAKEN A SICKIE IN MY LIFE.

you really need to adjust your glasses and read what is actually written.

Oops......i had an edit......how dare i change something on MY post......

Sick leave is safe: PM
10nov05

PRIME Minister John Howard has rejected claims that workers will have to provide a medical certificate for every sick day under his industrial relations changes.

Page 117 of the WorkChoices Bill states, however, that employees must provide a medical certificate for every day off to be eligible for sick leave.
Draft laws establishing the new regime passed the House of Representatives this morning and Mr Howard said he was optimistic the Senate would also approve the 687-page bill next month.

ACTU secretary Greg Combet said the requirement for a medical certificate for every sick day would lead to extra pressure and cost for workers.

But Mr Howard said bosses could already demand medical certificates.

"Employers can ask for it now if they want to and I know employers who do. Not many, not many," Mr Howard said on Sky News.

But Mr Howard said bosses can already demand medical certificates. "Employers can ask for it now if they want to and I know employers who do. Not many, not many," Mr Howard said on Sky News.

"Of course you don't (always go to the doctor when you take one day off) and there's nothing in this provision that is going to alter the current situation."

He said the new laws allowed an employer to ask for a certificate, which should be provided as soon as possible ? either before, during or after the period of illness.

"If there are circumstances beyond the control of the employee that make it impossible for him to provide it, well he doesn't have to," he said.

"That is effectively the current situation yet out of all of that ... this nonsense is being put around, this distortion by the Labor Party that you've got to get a certificate every day."

Mr Howard said the Labor Party was bouncing from issue to issue with a fear campaign against the changes.

"They go from one issue one day and when it gets answered they go to another one," he said.

"Well we're patient people. We'll deal issue-by-issue, day-by-day, and in a year's time when people discover ... that the world does not come to an end and that people are not being disadvantaged, they will look back on this period of distortion and say the Labor Party did not serve the public interest."

He defended the Government's decision to guillotine debate on the laws, saying it had already been the longest parliamentary debate of his term in office.

Barnaby Joyce was spot on. He would not ask his employees for a certificate as it means he is questioning his employees honesty.

To add to Northern Pies 17.5% rates he fails to add your mortgage was never over 22.5% of your income. Interest Rates are great at the moment, trouble is they are set at over 32% of your income. To add to the Liberals push it was the Labour Party that pushed rates up. Lest wait and see what the Liberals will say what's global conditions put pressure on ours to come up. Our rates just like our fuel prices respond to overseas markets as well.

The socialist part of the labour party has not existed for over 15 years despite many calling themselves left wing. If they were any further right they would be Liberal members. The NSW right wing controls the Labour Party and I would call them more conservative than the Liberals.

Norethern Pie your out of touch with what Labour stands for these days. The reason we have Howard is we had Hawke & Keating.
