I just received an email urging people not to buy petrol on this date.

Will you participate?

is there a decent reason why? Is it somehow going to bring down petrol cost? I think not.
Oh yeah and its a Thursday too, people might need to go to work without having to catch public transport.

Apparently if there is a widespread boycott then it could cost petrol firms upto $4 billion in 24 hours.

umm OK great revenge against the petrol firms but isn't it more likely they would then have to up the cost, to cover their losses?

No.
Depending on their storage capacity it may force them into lowering the price to get the fuel running out of their depots again.
i'm sure a production line creating petrol can not just be "shut off". Therefore everything they produce for that day needs to be stored.

I haven't bought fuel since May. Helps knowing which vehicles are easy to siphon.

Bring it on.

I might be able to get a job if I live long enough. I used to work in a trotting stable, driving trackwork. I'd be right in my element if they bring back the horse and cart.

Inconvenience the profit-pigs any way we can.
See what the fall out from 1st attempt is - if prices stay this high, then plan another one next month.
And yes, they would recover the "losses" the next day, but we have to attempt this sabotage to their production schedule.

People Power.

you have to be realistic though... the petrol companies don't have all that much control over how much the petrol is costing them (I believe petrol price is rising because we're running out of it) and being a company they need to make a profit....

DFC, the price of oil has gone down for the past week.
Yet we continue to pay high prices.

Wait till the flow through effect comes to all items that rely on road transport to get to you.

Oil reserves are 50+ years.

i'll second that and we all should understand that people make the world go round so 'people power' is exactly that, we have the power to change what we dont like, i left melb 3 months ago and travelled around australia, petrol was $1.10 when i left, the most i paid was $1.55 in the queensland outback and 5 weeks ago $1 on the gold coast, so i have just arrived back in melb and i am shocked to see petrol is up to $1.30, boycott petrol for a day and then another day will see changes in the price coming down but we ALL have to participate.

Petrol one day, supermarkets the next (over priced fruit and vegies).
