I currently can't find the link for this, so I"ll have to type it out (i'm at work - at lunch!, no scanner here!)

Q&A
NICK MAXWELL

We could be 3-0

The heat was on in every sense of the word

Yeah, it was very hot out there. Everyone was pretty tired at the end but we showed what we were capable of. People had written us off early in the year, but we reached a clot of our indicators that we were playing reasonably well in the first couple of games even though we didn’t get the points for one reason or another.

I guess you can build an argument that with an ounce of luck you could have been 3-0 now

No doubt. We definitely could have and probably should have beaten the Bulldogs and in the Adelaide game we just about had them on toast.

Game NO.11 in your short career. Is this the most memorable so far?

For sure. Along with the Freo game last year when we won over there. Some of us guys who didn’t grow up barracking for Collingwood, we learnt a lot about the rivalry with Carlton during the week. We had Tuddy (Des Tuddenham) talk to us during the week and just the passion in the voice made everyone want to do a lot better.

Four goals down, seven frees to nil inside 50, everything stacked against you and you come out and kick 15.1 in the second half. Inspired stuff.

We’ve got a pretty tight group down the back. We understand there are going to be frees against us that sometimes aren’t deserving but we just try to keep doing the right thing and get behind each other.

Is that the loudest you’ve heard the army when you got running in the second half?

It was sensational, really was.

Your own game. Happy with it?

Yes, it was my first game for the year. I’m still learning. I’m only 11 games in. But I just love pulling on the strip and playing beside Jimmy Clement, Woewodin, Wakes, Presti and all the guys down there.

Nick's Stats for the Match

Time on Ground: 129 minutes
10 kicks,
4 handballs
6 marks
2 tackles
No frees for or against

Good effort Nick. It was good to see you getting a decent run.

I hope you make the most of your opportunity and have a place in the future of our club.

Many have tried...

I know he's just played the 11 games, but does Maxy have real leadership potential?
I for one think he does. He speaks very well, always seems to say the right things, and his style of play is similar (I know it's drawing an extremely long bow) to J. Hird.

I think the selectors should continue playing Nick and give him a chance to really nail a spot down. Think he shows a lot of Footy brains. Well Done!
