You are underpaid.

People are not prepared to do the "hard" jobs anymore.... it's great!

What?

Do you mean to say that people these days aren't prepared to ride a push-bike through a red light at city intersections any more?

Shocked

That's outrageous. Weak as piss, kids today ... weak as piss.

Ah, Dear Tess, but can you apply your make-up at the same time as well?

it may seem easy, but like any other job I bet it's a lot worse when you actually have to do it Sad

I'm sure it would get boring driving around all day after a while, and you would have to always be paying attention to where you're going and the traffic.

Pfft, its not the people that go to uni that is causing the shortage, it's the people who don't do anything at all that is causing the shortage. Years ago people on the dole would have jumped at the chance for an apprenticeship in anything, these days plenty are too picky.

Absolutely CORRECT Dyso, early morning after dropping my partner at work then traveling along punt rd,i would like to sit on the speed limit but im forced to drive above it in an erratic fashion, cause if i don’t, i can see myself or someone else been involved in an accident.

...counting the days until its travel time woohoo.

Think back to when we were all a little younger. I know I didn't value my job that highly so my integrity needed some checking. The reason i didn't value it is because I was living at home, no overheads, life was easy. If i didn't earn that much I could just sit back and relax while mum and dad forked out for me. There was no consequence if I didn't put in the extra hours or hard yards and my attitude reflected it. Now, with a mortgage and responsibility my outlook is a little different.

So what did people think would happen once the baby boomers started retiring? It doesn't take a rocket scientest to figure out once they retire there will be a shortage in labour - across the board. This issue isn't going anywhere. It will only get worse over the next 5 years. Simple supply and demand equation.

I know my brother wants to be an electrican, so he needs to do an apprenticeship. We're on the Mornington Peninsula and atm it doesn't seem like anyone wants to take on an apprentice. There is a shortage, yet some of the people that actually want an apprenticeship find it difficult to get one. Government funding should be increased for a starter.
