Apparently the Pies have put a price on pick seven to the Cats in their efforts to get Ottens.

We want James kelly.

Now i would do that in a flash. But dont think Catters would do it unless they are dumbstruck by Ottens...

Reported in todays AGE

James Kelly 2004 Average Statistics

Kicks: 12
Handballs: 7
Disposals: 19
Marks: 4
Tackles:3.5

9 goals in 12 games

Theses stats don't take into account game he got injured vs Eagles (injured early).

Go to Geelong website to check out more specifics about 2004. Some big possession games. Nearly 20 touches a game is nothing to scoff at.

Get him!

I am confused. This years draft is supposed to be weaker than previous years past pick 5-6. Yet Richmond would seemingly prefer pick 7 to either Tennace or Kelly (otherwise why not do the trade with cats direct).

Either this draft is stronger than the clubs are publicly saying (perhaps in the hope of hyping a trade of second string players for draft picks on clubs who believe the draft is weak), or the trade of 7 for kelly/tennace is wishfull thinking along the lines of lets get Judd (wants to come home)/Ball(Saints won't pay him)/Tarrant (unhappy at pies).

Draft picks are a lottery.

I think Wallace wants to rebuild Richmond. There is not point adding to what they already have because the team is rooted, and he needs to start from the ground up.

Nath - They aren't going to be able to fit all those guys in, in the future. They have an abundance of midfielders.

Agreed but Kelly and Bartel are the cream of that crop. Combined with Ling and Ablett, they are a devastating midfield.

Remember that Riccardi has one year tops left and that Sanderson is getting older as well, they need contingency plans there, just as they have done with Graham and Mooney with Lonergan, Playfair, McCarthy and Gardiner in the wings.

Wouldn't let Kelly or Bartel go for quids.

But, you don't know how much they want Ottens. The Tigers want to first round draft picks for him. If they want Ottens enough, I reckon they will be willing to give up a good midfielder.

They have to give up someone, and for Draft Pick 7 (a first round - Top 10 pick), it has to be someone good.

If Kelly, Bartel, Ling and Ablett are their guys, that leaves out Joel Corey, Brent Maloney, Kane Tenace, Charlie Gardiner, Shannon Byrnes, Paul Koulouriotis and anyone else that hasn't had senior experience yet.

At some point, they have to give up one of their midfielders to get stronger in the forward line.
