Does Shaw fit into our best 22? I don't know. I think McGough does, purely because of his ball winning abillity. With him, you are guarrenteed 20+ touches a game. If his kicking was better he'd be a star. He is a poor mans Simon Black.

I would like Shaw to stay, but it may just be better for him and the club if he moved on. Especiallaly if Heath/Brayden over took him next season - that would kill his confidence.

I wouldn't like to see McGough go, but Shaw may have to.

Johnno maaate what are you smoking? McGough is a naked, blind, mute, alcoholic, lice-infested man's Simon Black.

20+ touches, but only 7 good ones. Not quite a porn film, more an SBS movie.

I totally agree we need to keep MCG for his ball-winning skills (which are pretty scarce) and think that if the club can just make an effort to get his kicking right, he will be a star.

I accept that there is a strong difference of opinion on Shaw. Offering considered opinions about the list is what this part of the board is all about, so I'm happy to agree to disagree!

However, I will offer this observation: Shaw will play senior footy for one club only - Collingwood. I think if it is put to him by MM that it is time he moved elsewhere, it would break the kid's heart. I doubt if he would want to play anywhere else and if he does go and attempt to make something out of it at another club, it will end in disaster for him and the club which takes him.

Whoa guys - Droche hit the nail on the head earlier - Get a good skills coach who can do remedial work with Shaw, MCG, OB, Lica and Cole.

Has anyone ever seen and Essendon or Carlton team with poor disposal skills by foot - cause I haven't. That then means that they have better skills coaches than we do.

Do the Pies have a FULL TIME skills coach - no - does the AIS - yes - and who is the kicking mechanics example at the AIS - Didak.

Pies biggest problems are the off field staff not the playing list.

If we fix the off field staff we could stick with exactly the same list and finish top 4 in 2005.

sq3,
By the time they get to AFL, it is too late to change kicking techniques.
The speed & pressure dosen't give them time to think about kicking mechanics.

How many days/weeks/months/years would Richmond have put in to fix Richardson's kicking?

You can't teach courage either & Shaw embarrasses us the way he avoids contact when there's a loose ball to contest.

He wins a lot of the ball, and as it was mentioned earlier, get a new and good skills coach. Teach these guys how to kick. When Goughy does, he will be a poor mans Black, in that he woins a lot of the ball and *hopefully* uses it well. He has the abillity to be a gun.

McG would play in the midfield, in the thick of the action, where clean hands and disposals are at a premium. Got no probs with his hands, but his kicking to position under pressure (even w/o pressure!) is a serious concern. It's not that I've got anything against the lad, he certainly knows how to get the pill, it's that he will be competing for limited midfield time against guys like Leon, Johnno, Dids perhaps even Cole. He is more vulnerable because of his weaknesses. At this level they should be gimmes. Look, MM may see the potential in the boy and keep the faith with him. There is no doubt our midfield will be seriouly scrutinised and some aggressive moves made to increase the "grunt" ie clean hands and clear the pack and precise disposal ala Bux, Burns etc.
