Post subject: Collis rejects Brown's provocation defence | |
|
Jonathan Brown pleaded guilty to striking Port's Josh Carr in the Grand Final, but cited provocation at Monday nights rescheduled Tribunal hearing.
Attending via video link from Brisbane, the burly Lions forward testified that Carr is 'such a wanker' and this should be seen as a mitigating circumstance for his fifth charge in 12 months.
In refusing to allow the provocation plea, Chairman Brian Collis, QC, said that there were so many wankers in the Port Adelaide side that Brown would have to hit all of them for him to consider a reduced sentence.
"Carr is definitely a wanker," Collis said, "but in not striking Gavin Wanganeen, Byron Pickett, the Cornes brothers and 'Choco' Williams, player Brown has shown that he does tolerate wankers to some degree."
The rejected plea joins several others that Brown has made to explain his actions over the past year, including Rhyce Shaw being 'really annoying' and Chris Grant having a 'weird shaped head'.
