There is a real human tragedy unfolding and that is the starvation of the people of Sudan in recent nights we have seen terrible footage on the news of kids starving to death, and the heartbreaking vision of someones Grandma to weak to walk so she had to crawl.

It's sad to say that this sort of stuff really puts our lives into some sort of perspective, here i am and im sure many others who are pissed off with the loss on monday and yet we are constantly reminded due to the unfortunate circumstances of others just how lucky we all are.

As a community in here of some 1600 members if we were to all pledge 5 bucks that would equal 8.000 dollars could you imagine what sort of help that would be to these poor people.

I appreciate some people are going to say that this is a football board and we dont really care for such postings and the topic might even get moved i really hope neither happens.

It would be heart warming to see the magpie army get behind this current tragedy.

Cheers

No your not a prick michael your post reflects what many others may feel however let me say that here in Australia we have programmes in process to help the homeless and the people in need of food, i hope to never see the day when elderly people are crawling the streets of Melb or any Capitol city because they are too weak to walk due to lack of food.

The fact is hundreds upon hundreds maybe thousands will perish and to be honest 5 bucks in our day to day of existing really aint that much.

Sorry, Joff.

We would be much more productively occupied to lobby our local member of parliament to give aid in this situation.

Your thoughts about how we in Australia are prone to get more passionate about sporting pursuits than some human rights issues is spot on and you're also correct about this not being a footy topic. It can be discussed in VPT.

Most of our parliamentry folk Donny are currently busy trying to buy votes for the next federal election re the family cash handouts.

I put this topic in general discussion to bring about awareness and expose this huge human tragedy i have no probs if it was to be moved, if what i posted urges only 2 people to give to these suffering people i'll sleep a little better tonight.
Cheers

ha true that eunos.

anyway i agree michael about helping ppl in australia first, although if people here were in the state they are in in sudan they would be getting aid.

the problem is with countries, especially in africa, is that people give them aid but theres so much corruption not much of it gets to the people who really need it.
so then when the huge american drug companies stop sending their medicine to africa, everyone has a sook, but its really the drug companies saying well whats the point of giving drugs to help all those people with AIDS when it doesnt get to them anyway.

Just a quick clarification of my previous post, need it be taken the wrong way.
My point is that we all spend our money to give ourselves pleasure. If we then spend a fraction to help someone else then thats a good thing to do. But none of us have the right to criticize other ppl and the way they distribute their hard earned.

no thats right, but i also regarding people who dont help others when they're in need, they just take it for granted that someone will help them when they're in need. sounds a bit selfish to me.

like people who dont want to donate their organs when they die, well if they get sick id be hoping they dont want to RECEIVE one either!
