India blacklist former skipper
From correspondents in New Delhi - Fox
April 28, 2004
INDIA's cricket board has reportedly blacklisted Mohammed Azharuddin from a pension program for former Test players following his life ban on match-fixing charges.
Former captain Azharuddin has been left out of the pension scheme launched by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Press Trust of India reports today.
Azharuddin, who captained India in three successive World Cups, was banned for life in 2001 after being accused of match-fixing in connivance with illegal bookmakers.
The scheme, starting this month, will also benefit umpires who officiated in Tests.
It stipulates a monthly pension of 5000 rupees ($150), but does not cover those who played one-day internationals.
Azharuddin was India's most successful Test captain with 14 victories until present skipper Sourav Ganguly overtook him this month by posting his 15th win in the third and final Test of the recent series with Pakistan. _________________ As Reg Reagan Says-Go And Get Stuffed..!! |
