Give us a contest, Pies rookie told

Collingwood will make a small yet crucial demand of Cameron Cloke tomorrow: simply, that the teenager spend his AFL debut forcing the forward-line contests that the Magpies have sorely missed in the past three weeks.

With Chris Tarrant still absent from the goal square, and the team's limp start having produced just one win from four games, vice-captain Anthony Rocca said Cloke's sole task was to compete heavily in a match he felt could kick-start the club's season.

Cloke, selected under the father-son rule in the 2002 draft, spent last year at Williamstown and will be the sixth Magpie youngster to debut in the first five rounds, behind David King, Luke Mullins, Guy Richards, Bo Nixon and Tom Davidson.

That's all a first gamer should be asked to do. Force the ball to ground and let Dids run into form.

I remember Brereton saying "that was the best 1 touch game I've ever seen by Scotty Cummings".

Thats a great point mate!. Ah, good old 2002!. But yeah, all we need is for Cam to make a contest!. if he can take one of the essendon backs, then they really only have Fletcher left. We need out small forwards to be firing tomorrow!. big games from Dutchy, Dids, Ritchie... Our small blokes are the key!. We all know that at our best, we are better than Essendon. We just need to prove that. I know we can beat them if it's dry... Rain would be a bonus. C'MON PIES!!

I dont expect much from the youngster. All i want to see is for him to provide a contest like the thread title says and to be accountable on his man and not just let him push up the ground easily.

Well he did provide a contest most of time. So well done to him for his first game. There were times where i thought he didnt chase hard enough when his opponent got the ball, but that was late in the game and i think he was quite fatigued for his first game in AFL. Will improve.

Seemed a tad too slow but did provide a contest. I must admit my only good memory of a disappointing first quarter was when Bolton tried to "rough up" Cam but ended up on his backside instead.
