Batsmen.
Trescothick drops 7 places and Vaughan, 1. This reflects their poor form in the West Indies. Ponting swaps with Lara as Lara's scores of 0 & 8 drag him down.
Kirsten's two failures in his last Test see him drop 3 places and out of the top ten. He's replaced by Martyn. Gilchrist and Smith both move up.

Blanch, MacGilla got as high as #8, a few months back but has been steadily slipping and is now at 22.
Dave, when you get 7/12 and 6/61 in amongst 16 wickets @ 10.87 over your two most recent Tests, it does tend to bump you up the chart a bit, even when it is against the West Indies.
Over his 14 Tests, he has 57 wickets @ 24.36. _________________ Donny.

I think too much importance is sometimes placed on these rankings.
The best bowler in the world is Shane Warne and the best batsman at the moment is Hayden (which the ranking have got right).

The ratings are a purely statistical analysis, not someone's opinion.
There's a formula which takes into account the relative rankings of teams.
Put simply, Murali will pick up more points for getting 20 wickets against the Aussies than Warne will for 20 wickets against them because Sri Lanka is rated below Australia.
