Green earns title showdown
March 21, 2004

AUSTRALIA's Danny Green successfully earned a world title rematch with German Markus Beyer tonight but his knock out run came to an end against lionhearted Kiwi Sean Sullivan.

Green, the interim WBC supermiddleweight world champion, had knocked out every one of his opponents in his 17 victories to date but he was unable to get Sullivan to the canvas in tonight's non-title bout.

In the longest fight of his short career, Green won an unanimous points decision with the three judges scoring it 100-90, 100-89, 100-88.

But despite sending wave after wave of attacks at Sullivan the New Zealander refused to be knocked out.

In his 67 fights Sullivan has never been knocked out and he somehow withstood a fierce barrage from Green and gave plenty of his own back in a freakish display in front of a sell out crowd at Perth's Challenge Stadium.

But Green was the clear winner and will fight Beyer in a rematch in either May or June, the only man to beat the Australian when Green was controversially disqualified for head butting in their title fight last year.

cheers bryan..!!
