NHL suspends Bertuzzi for rest of season!?!?

Vancouver Canucks' forward Todd Bertuzzi was suspended for the rest of the 2003-04 season, including the Playoffs.

As i am a fan of NHL and my team is Vancouver... well this pisses me off!

In a sport that is fast and hard hitting, how can a player be rubbed out for the rest of the year and possibly even the next season?

The incodent involved Bertuzzi stiking a player making him fall to the ice with Bertuzzi and a player from Colorado ontop of him... apparently as he fell, the player that Bertuzzi stuck broke a vertabre in his neck.

I mean fair enough he shouldnt have done it... but in this game players get put in a penalty box for 2 minutes for doing this sort of thing...

The media make it sound like the player has completely broken his neck and will never play again... when infact he will be recovered within 2 to 4 weeks....

The team has also been fined $250,000.

Im not sure if many of u know about ice hockey, but my mums side of the family come from Vancouver, hence the reason i follow them.

I saw the incident on Sports Tonight & it was a dog act.

I know Ice Hockey is a tough game, but he could of hit him when he could see it coming or when he had the puck FFS.

The Vancouver police are apparently investigating it also as he has such serious injuries. Similar to the Bruns/Matthews(i think?) case in the VFL/AFL.

Anyway, go the Avalanche!!!

That was absolutely brutal!!!
the vancouver player hit him from behind, at least if you are going to punch him, punch him from the front. i agree with ev5.

Just so you know I do have a soft spot for the Avs as I have worked in Colorado for a while. Just stating which side of the fence I am on...

It was a pretty bad thing for him to do, he could of just dropped him, rather then dropping him onto the ice where he broke his neck. I guess he deserves to be suspended like that, but it robs the fans and the team.

Just show's that one mans actions, hurt the whole team.
