At least this tour will help sort out a few players.

By the end of the tour i think Langer, Martyn and MacGill will be finished in the test match arena.

I think should the Aussies lose this test match some of the heat will come on the Australian selectors.

They took a huge gamble by playing Symonds at number 6 as a specialist batsman and so far this has not paid dividends. Katich was very harshly done by.

I think the Aussie batsman did not pay enough respect to the Sri Lankan bowling attack. Perhaps they forgot this was a test match and not a tour game.

If the Aussies come back and win it will be a truly great effort. One gets the feeling Warne with the ball and Hayden with the bat carry Australias hopes (even though they can pick Murali....lol)

Symonds was selected more as a complimentry spinner (spins the other way) than a number 6 batsman. Not because he was considered to be a better batsman than Katich.

I suggest Williams is player most harshly done by.

On what basis was Symonds picked as a bowler ?? Based on bowling 10 overs in one day cricket ?? Thats a joke. Bowling in one day cricket and test cricket are completely different.

Well the problem is they have picked a bowler for test match cricket based on his performances in the one day arena. That i think is a mistake. Bowling in test matches are completely different to one day cricket. Symonds has to be relied upon for more than 10 overs and has he the ability and the patience to get batsman out who are not looking to score freely or will he simply rely on their mistakes if any??

He hasn't been picked as first or even second spinner so he isn't being 'relied upon' for anything.
--------------------------------------------

Gillespie shows his class with the wicket of Atapattu for 47. 3/125.

So if he hasnt been picked as a specialist batsman and he isnt first or second spinner his position is very questionable one would think ??

Yes. Questionable, no worries but who would you have selected as a third spinner on this dirt track ? Hogg ? He's gone home. Katich ? No, it's not Zimbabwe at the SCG.

They tried to hit him out of the attack with 29 from his first 4 overs but Ponting showed faith and he then bowled another 9 overs and took 1/29, snaring the dangerous Jaywardene for 68.

I would have played Katich to strengthen the batting line up. Australias line up has always had a question mark against good spin bowling in the sub continent and Katich is a very good player of spin bowling.
