THE Collingwood Football Club have officially launched an exciting new program, Magpie Racing, that will allow Magpie supporters from all over the world to purchase shares in a company which will own and race premier thoroughbred racehorses.

Commencing racing operations 1 July 2001, Magpie Racing is a company open to all Collingwood supporters and racing enthusiasts, who for a dollar a day over three years, will have the opportunity to be part of a unique racing club.

Magpie Racing will provide Collingwood supporters and racing enthusiasts with an opportunity to be involved with the club whether they are based in Victoria, interstate or abroad.

All horses owned by Magpie Racing will race in white silks with a black stripe, black sleeves and a black and white striped cap. These colours have already been approved by the VRC.

The Magpie Racing stable will be based and trained by Robbie Laing at Sutton Grange Stud in Bendigo.

Shareholders will receive regular racing club newsletters, corporate hospitality events and discounted racecourse admission.

Eddie McGuire, Mick Malthouse, Nathan Buckley and other Collingwood players are already committed shareholders in Magpie Racing.

"Magpie Racing is an exciting opportunity for supporters who love their football and racing to follow the ‘Pies on the field and at the track," said Collingwood captain Nathan Buckley.

Well, they have pigeon racing, so why not magpie racing? Maybe they could train mice to ride them. The hardest part would be training the mice to pull them up when they're not supposed to win.
