I played with Mark Richardson in the two's a decade ago. No offence to Richo but he had the lowest talent to games ratio in the history of the game. Apart from that, well done on a lot of service to the club and best wishes.

Average footballer who got many games because of his famous family name....he did play some handy games though.

Nice bloke too.

Wish him well.

Well he has played more AFl games than all of us in here so no one can really say he was a poor footballer because he played for the Pies and was picked in the side by such coaches as Leight Mathews, Tony Shaw and Mick Malthouse! So he mut have been a decent footballer!

Richo was a player that got the best out of his ability. He was a player who was a times unlucky with injury and was always under pressure because of his family's name. Also a terrific club man.

People who bag Richo can blow a goat! The guy came along the year we won the granny in 1990...We had Manson and Monkey rucking and there were limited opportunities for him to live up to his family name. If he was as bad as you claim, you must be the person blowing the goat cos i dont see you bloody name against a afl/vfl clubs list.

Moron!

Which is what I thought aswell when reading the subject, which is why I decided to read it. Thinking that Matthew had finally decided to retire, or was dumped.

he was an ok player, but i thought he would not be on our list last year or the year before. he was pretty much finished and needed to make way for the young guys.

Couldn't have been that bad.Kicked 6 goals in half a game against the Swans before going off injured. Gave Kernahan a bath at full back at the G as well. Carried a huge burden with the name. Was honest enough to declare himself unavailable for the 2002 GF when he felt a twinge in his hammy. Otherwise he was the player who was going to replace J Cloke.

That's one of life's imponderables H(what the hell are you doing in the Netherlands)B. Would he have done more than Molloy? Who knows? Certainly wouldn't have turned in a Derek Shaw performance.

Just shows what someone with a little determination and persistence can achieve. Richo was a good footballer and clubman who stood up when asked, i used to bag the guy a lot, but credit to the guy he put in and improved the way he played footy at the end of his career and he earnt my respect. He may have not been the most skillful bloke on the park but his whole heart and soul belonged to the black and white, so in my book the man is ok.

Cheers

When we had our bad trot in the mid to late 90's there weren't many players I was positive about including Richo, but he improved as a footballer as he became one of the more elder statesmen in my honest opinion. I thought he was a genuine tryer who got the most our of his ability. Definately underated in his later years, but by no means a dud player. It is easy to make comments about players like Richo and even today Benny Kinnear, but I actually thought Ben played quite well last year and deserved to be given another go. His career is similar to richos as far as his development is going but I will be cheering him on this year as I reckon he might be one our quite achievers who surprise a few people.

Go Pies 2004 Kick down the door !!!
