The Redbacks won the toss and batted.

Matthew Inness took a wicket with his second ball and also claimed Greg Blewett (4) in his 4th. over. He has 2/23 from 5 overs.

Debutante, Ben Cameron, is 23 n. o. and S.A. is 2/36 after 10 overs.
-------------------------------------------------------

Cameron (37) and Lehmann (16) are batting well. 2/58 after 16 overs.

Boof is out.

He has not done anything so far to warrant a recall into the Australian team.

No, quite the contrary.

He only has to show he's fit. I'd say the selectors are happy with his progress. They want his experience in the team, especially with Waugh gone.

The Redbacks are 3/78 in the 24th. over. McDonald got Lehmann for 21.

Well thats a struggle in itself for Lehmann proving he is fit.......lol

Its a bit of a joke really if thats all he has to do. Its not like he is in the class of Hayden or Ponting who have proven track records for Australia. Even the best leg spin bowler is being asked to prove his credentials. Yet Lehmann just has to prove fitness ? Thats crap.

Warne has been out for a year and with him, same as Boof, it's match fitness the selectors are after. They already know how these 2 players can perform.

Lehmann is the incumbent Test #6 (#5 now with Waugh gone) coming back from injury and Warne is the incumbent Test spinner.
----------------------

Allan Wise gets Cosgrove for 18 and the Redbacks are 4/96 after 27 overs.

Picking Lehmann is a step backwards. I would rather have an athletic young player in the team in Clarke and have Katich at 6.

Hayden
Langer
Ponting
Martyn (for the 1st test anyway as i cant see him being dropped)
Clarke
Katich

No doubting once Lehmann is in the team Ponting will back him up so even if he fails he will keep on getting selected........lol

No, much too early for Clarke. Hasn't proved himself at first class level yet and averages only 40.

They'll continue bringing him along in the ODIs, probably for two more seasons. Whacking a quick 50 in a one dayer is entirely different to what's required for a Test innings.

There are so many double standards that seem to exist in the selection process.

Some of the double standards exist between bowlers and batsman and the selection criteria. It seems that a batsman has to have a much better track record to be picked than a bowler does.

What was Pontings track record like before he was picked ??

5 centuries in 5 successive Shield games got him a baggy green.

Thats a fair effort.

It will be interesting to see if the selectors dont pick Clarke at present and his performances stay as they are. As in his first class average doesnt improve but he shows promise in the one day games.

Will the selectors pick him?? Or will they go for a more deserving candidate if there is one ?

I say they will pick Clarke.

How long do you think it will be before he is awarded with higher honours if at all ??

I am pretty sure Wise is a very tall fast bowler and bowls LEFT HAND which is what Australia wants ?? Maybe Bracken wont be on the gravy train for long.

Miller and Davison are fighting back and have added 50.
-----------------------------

Moss gets Davison for 30. 7/178.
--------------------

8/178 as Cleary goes for a duck. Also to Moss.
