This is an extremely important match for Tassie.

With the possibility of S.A. taking the points from Victoria, a win for The Tigers would give them a chance of hosting the final.

As things stand, it looks like a Vic/Tas final especially with the rain in Queensland making the 6 points very unlikely for the third placed Bulls.

Knowing Tassie, they'll probably draw the game, the last few years that haven't been that good at winning important games. So this will be a big test for Tassie, if they win this game, then things might look up for them in the final.

Tassie won the toss and sent W.A. in to bat.

There must be a bit in the wicket or it's overcast. Even though The Warriors are last on the Pura table, their batting looks very strong with Langer, Hussey, Rogers, Goodwin, North and Campbell making up their top 6.

After 6 overs, it's 0/17.

WA 4-345 at stumps

Fox

WESTERN Australia's Marcus North starred in the south today as he fired off a century in a session to propel the Warriors to a powerful position against Tasmania in the Pura Cup clash at Bellerive Oval.

The visitors were 4-345 at stumps on day one after the home side won the toss.

Posting his first ton of the season off 124 balls with 12 fours and three sixes, North was unbeaten on 118 while wicketkeeper/batsman Ryan Campbell was 29 not out on his return from injury.

Resuming after tea on 18, North scored a neat 100 off 104 balls in the final session.

The dashing lefthander's fourth-wicket partnership with former Zimbabwean international Murray Goodwin added 148 runs before Goodwin was caught behind by Sean Clingeleffer off quick Gerard Denton for 77.

Denton finished the day with two for 68 off 20 overs.

Left arm paceman Andrew Downton earlier captured the key wickets of WA skipper Justin Langer (15) and Mark Hussey (82) to take 2-84 off 22.

The Warriors have moved on to 5/390 after North was out without adding to his 118.

Campbell is 61 n.o. from 77 balls.
------------------------------------------------

Haddin getting selected in front of Campbell has certainly stungthe Warriors' keeper into action. He's raced into the 90s from 99 balls.

He's now 99 from 104 balls. 5/459.
-------------------------------------------------

There it is. 100 from 106 balls. Top effort. Harvey is 50 n.o. from 75 balls. I smell a declaration coming up.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Campell celebrates with 16 from one over and races to 118 from 117. With 15 minutes to lunch, and the score on 5/494, we can expect Tassie to be batting straight after lunch.

Didn't happen.

W.A. batted on till Harvey got his century. Campbell made 134 from 132 balls. Harvey's ton came up from 127 balls.

It's a mystery why they batted on past 500 as they are on the bottom of the ladder. You'd reckon they would've enjoyed a good game.

Tassie are 3/192 at stumps with Watson on 51 n.o. and Dighton, 63 n.o.

It'll be a draw I reckon, Western Australia will take first innings points, unless Tassie recover their innings and make some runs in a hurry.

Well Dave, I'm baffled why W.A. batted so long but I'm amazed why Dan Marsh decided to throw away the advantage of winning the toss at Bellerive by asking The Warriors to bat !!

Wright, Denton and Downton is a serviceable attack but by no means a feared trio of quicks. What was he thinking ?
-----------------------------------------------------------

This morning, Tassie is just chipping away. They are 3/219 with Dighton on 76 n.o. and Watson, 65 n.o. Two centuries for the taking.

Tassie can continue to chip away and try for the 2 points or declare behind (if they're not bowled out) in the hope W.A. would also declare and make a game of it.
-------------------------------------

A flurry of runs took both batsmen to their centuries before Dighton was out for 101. Watson is 111 n.o.

At lunch, Tassie is 4/339 with Watson on 127 n.o. and Marsh, 25 n.o.

They need 74 more to avoid the follow on.
----------------------------------------------------

Watson is out for 139 and Marsh has gone to 50 n.o. 5/378.
----------------------

Marsh declared at 384, 178 behind. W.A. is 0/17 in the 5th. over.
---------------------------------------

2/58. The lead is 236. Langer is 27 n.o.
-----------------------

3/104. 282 lead. Langer 47 n.o.

Langer (70 n.o.) and North (32 n.o.) have added a quick 75 to take the lead to 338.
-----------------------------

Langer out for 84 and the lead is 377. North is 61 n.o. from 63 balls.
---------------------------------------------

At stumps, W.A. is 422 ahead with 6 wickets in hand. North is 82 n.o. from 85 balls.

Western Australia should declare before play tomorrow and get Tasmania in and try and get them out quickly. Going to be interesting to see if WA goes out and gets some quick runs, or declare and try for an out right win.

W.A. batted on for 4 overs before declaring on 6/270. North made 87.

Tassie need 448 from 90 overs. That's 5 r.p.o. Should be a good day.

Remember, they chased a similar target against NSW and got them, earlier in the year, with Di Venuto and Marsh starring.

The Tigers are 1/70 in the 16th. over and on target.

Watson is 31 n.o. from 28 and Mason, 36 from 24.
------------------------------------

A steady start from The Tigers. At lunch, they're 1/101. They now need 5.35 r.p.o. to win from 65 overs. Mason is 52 n.o. and Watson, 41 n.o.
-----------------------

The chase continues in good fashion. Mason is 94 n.o. and Watson, 69 n.o. They need 275 from 51 overs @ 5.39 r.p.o.
