Post subject: Top 25 moments in Oz cricket..... | |
|
seems like The Age, and I assume, the smh, are running the 'coundown' for bicentenary of Oz cricket.

No's 25 - 222 are:
25. Haydens 380
24. Boxing Day 81
23.Leeds test, 1948
22. 74 75 Ashes
The boxing day test in 81 had the best finish to a days play ever, I still remember screaming like a lunatic after the last ball.
I was just wondering what the other 21 moments might be....
i'd guess Spofforths Ashes test would be up there, along with the first test. Bradmans 1930 series, the 17 test wins in row, the 3 world cup wins,
Richie Benaud bowling Dexter in 61 (at Lords?), the centenary test, massies match at Lords...
Number one would be the original ashes test I'd say, but the smart money would suggest I'm wrong.
Anyone else got any thoughts?
(I figure one of JLC's will be when Martyn gets the chop!lol) |

I don't have the experience that some of you do so I'm probably not able to comment with much foresight. However, I reckon that the 99 World cup would have to be up there. To come from "absolutely gone" twice against the same team is something I'll never forget. _________________ My oxygen is Collingwood. Without it I die.

one memory i have of the cricket was a one dayer at the mcg when steve waugh took a catch near the sight board in the late 80's. I can remember it was a towering shot everyone thought it was gone, then waugh ran behind the board and came out the other side with the ball in his hand.
I will never forget that, it was awesome. |

Have to agree with Dave about Boxing Day 81 - for some reason everybody knew Big Viv was gone even as Lillee charged in. A great moment I can still clearly remember - mind you it helps having a highlights tape of it on the shelf. _________________ Good Old Collingwood

16: Australia’s World Cup breakthrough India, 1987
15: The bookie scandal 1998
14: Muralitharan called for chucking MCG, 1995
Dunno if no 14 was a great moment, just showed how the ICC abdicated its responsibility to the game by bowing to the race card and taking away the right of umpires to call a no ball for throwing. |

Hopefully this doesn't turn out like the AFL team of the century, where you didn't get a gig if you were'nt from the age of TV....me thinks the Ashes test in 1882 (just before I moved to London) will get no 1, and last yers WC win will appear somewhere too, but I'd hate to think that'd get no1 |
