Katich into one-day squad
Fox
AUSTRALIAN Test batsman Simon Katich is poised to make his one-day international return after today being called up to replace rested opener Matthew Hayden.
Katich, who played in his sole ODI three years ago, has been added to Australia's 13-man one-day squad for Thursday's tri-series match against Zimbabwe in Sydney.
Hayden has been rested to allow him time to overcome some minor injuries that have built up over an intense summer of action.
The world record holder was once again in the runs for Australia last night, belting 109 runs off 107 balls in the 19-run loss to India at the Gabba.
Although Hayden will miss only the one match, the selectors have kept the door ajar for the left-handed Katich, in fine limited-overs form for NSW, to remain in the one-day squad.
Selection panel chairman Trevor Hohns said the selectors would opt to make changes to the squad as they saw fit throughout the remainder of the tournament.
Katich, who scored his maiden Test century against India at the SCG this month, made a mere five runs in his only one-dayer for Australia – against Zimbabwe at the MCG in 2000-01. _________________ Donny.
It's a game. Enjoy it. |
