Mundine accepts Green challenge

By Grantlee Kieza - Fox Sports

DANNY GREEN says he welcomes a multi-million dollar unification fight with arch-rival Anthony Mundine in what would be one of the biggest fights ever staged in Australia.

"But I'm not that fussed if he won't fight me," Green said yesterday.

"My belt looks better than his anyway so he can keep his."

Mundine holds a minor version of the WBA super-middleweight championship after that organisation declared the rightful champion Sven Ottke a "super champion" and allowed Mundine to fight Antwun Echols for a secondary version of the crown in September.

Tony Mundine yesterday accepted Green's challenge for his son but with one impossible condition - that Green has a top 10 ranking from the WBA.

It is common knowledge in the fight game that WBC champ Green would not be rated by a rival organisation like the WBA.

Tony Mundine admitted as much yesterday when he told The Australian: "Only if, and it is a bit of an if, the WBA must give Green a ranking, then we'll fight him.

"We'll fight him anywhere, anytime."

Mundine Sr had some sharp words for Lucas, too, after the fight.

"I think the Canadian dogged it," he said. "I had the local boy ahead on points after the first two rounds.

"He just played with Danny in the ring. I reckon the fight was a set-up.

"I still can't understand why Lucas' corner threw in the towel. The way I saw it the boy wasn't hurt.

"Green never marked him. He never gave him a flogging."

Mundine Sr said his son did not watch the fight because he was sleeping.

"I reckon Anthony would beat [Green]," he said, "and beat him easy."

Mundine's manager Khoder Nasser said The Man felt Green's victory was good for Australian boxing.

"Anthony feels it's great, it helps boxing in Australia and it's all good news," Nasser said.

"Anthony's advice now to Danny is to train hard and win Beyer's title."

Yeah he accepted and put a clause that means the fight will basically never happen.

Green would thump Mundine imo.

Mundine Vs Green would be a wonderful fight and something I would really look forward to. After all the embarassments boxing has enjured recently this fight would be a wonderful showcase for the sport in this country.

By the way I think Danny Green would win and win well but we have written choc off in the past and he has proved as wrong so good luck to him.

....yeah, it states that Green has to have a Top 10 ranking in Mundine's division/championship, or something along those lines, and apparently, that is virtually impossible because they won't give Green an actual ranking for that championship.

IMHO, Green would whip Mundine.

I think Green will beat Bayer, he was clearly the better fighter in their last clash so I think he can do the job. Doesn't Mundine have another fight coming up soon as well?
