Post subject: Australian Selectors where are you ?? | |
|
I found it very strange to hear that NO Australian Selectors were at the Vics v NSW clash just played. No wonder no Victorians ever get chosen....lol You would have thought with the next test being at the MCG at least one selector would have gone to watch the game and see how the bowlers performed. That would be like Noel Judkins not bothering to go and watch under 18 games etc.
Surely with Victorias success at least one of their bowlers will come under consideration for Boxing Day.

With Rofe, Wright, Tait and Nicholson already selected in the Australia A team and Inness out with an illness, I hardly think Mick Lewis and Allan Wise are in the selector's minds.
Wise looks a real talent but has played just 3 first class games, Harwood wasn't even in the 12 but came in and was made 12th. man when Inness had to pull out and the big hearted Lewis is near the end of a long queue.
We have McGrath, Gillespie, Lee, Bichel, Williams and Bracken on one level then Noffke, Kasprowicz, Inness and the 4 named in the Oz A team on the next.
That's 13 before you start looking at Clark, Dawes, Jurgenson, Wilson, Worthington, Wise and there are probably 1 or two I've missed.
The selectors have seen enough of Clarke, Hodge, White, Lee and Clark to know their capabilities. _________________ Donny.

Um well the next test is at the MCG ?? May not have been a bad idea to see how the players went and how the pitch was.
Australia needs fresh faces to lead it into the future not Kasprowicz, Bichel and crap like that. Oh thats right Trevor Hohns Border and Buchanan will look after their own first.
Considering Victoria and NSW are two of the heavy weights you would think at least ONE selector would have gone to the game for ONE of the days at least.

Yeah well im sure the Australian selectors have seen everyone play so if that was the case they wouldnt go to any shield matches. Judkins job at Collingwood would be easy if he didnt bother go to see players play because he had seen them before. For starters we wouldnt have picked up Lokan.
The Australian selectors should have a very open mind and take a risk and pick a Victorian, the last time they took a risk it turned out to be the greatest leg spinner in the world.
If you think Kasprowicz, Williams and Bichel are the future of our bowling attack then we will struggle. McGrath has one more season left in him and Gillespie is good but often gets injured. Brett Lee has pace but needs more tricks in his bag. Without Warne we lack a world class spinner. MacGill may have the figures but i dont rate him much.

But, JLC, just who pray tell of your Victorians could be justifiably be given the big leg up???
Australian pace stocks are less than impressive at the moment but your best man, Inness, is currently out of action and the likes of Harwood and Lewis are yet to cement State pozzies let alone think of going upwards.
Opening spots look fairly solid so that along with age will mitigate against Elliott. Hodge is the closest to consideration but will compete against players like Katich, Love and maybe Lehmann and his best chance may be after Waugh is dragged off stage. He can by no means be classified as a young talent.
Like yourself, am not a member of the McGill fan club, but White is more in the potential category than legitimate candidate. He will take the spot behind Warne. Realistically next season is a more realistic hope. Harvey is an inconsistent performer at first class level and Moss's Australian representation will justifiably be limited to Maccabi Games level.
Essentially they have probably seen as much as they feel warranted of those they may have under short or long term consideration. Frankly, I see little to support your brave assertion that they should gamble on a Vic. _________________ he's an animal, what can u expect!!! |

David Hussey is a very promising batsman I would have thought someone would at least like a look at him. Also Jon Moss has been very consistant with both bat and ball and is definitely challenging Harvey as our no 1 allrounder. Cameron White as been mentioned as a possibility to tour Ski Lanka so maybe they should be watching him more closely, I know he is in Aust A but that is only a one off game they should be looking at performances in more than just that match. |

Kaspra DESERVES another chance, despite the fact he may soon qualify for pension, like most of the Aussie 1st XI! If he fails, then we can put a line through his name permanently. Not the time to be blooding rookies when we are a test DOWN for once, instead of up one!
And can everybody give Stu MacGill a break? So he had a poor test. Surely he's won more tests for us in Warne's absence than lost for us?
And he's twice the leggie Trevor Hohns ever was. |

HAHAHA thats funny
Yeah but when the Lollypop man in MacGill came up against a team that has half a clue against spin bowling he got spanked. Save MacGill for when we play Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. MacGill bowls way too many loose deliveries that get belted.
Kaspa is another Selleys player. Can fill a gap but is only a short term solution. Maybe we can call him polly filler and Bichel can be the original Selleys. _________________ The Torres bounce is officially dead. You are walking alone now Fernando. |

redrafting Kaspa into the team would be a step in the wrong direction, I think even the aussie selectors can see that. Aussies need to start giving a few younger guys a chance in test cricket or they will become a "dad's army" |

Didn't the selectors add Kaspra to a touring squad recently? Even if for a safe-guard for our regular bowlers, it must mean that he is still therefore under some consideration perhaps?

Maybe after these guys performances in Perth the selectors might actually show them enough respect to come and watch them now. I thought these guys were unlucky to miss out on Aust A selection in the 3 day game(& that was before Perth)so surely they would be in the mix to make Aust A in the one-dayers. |

You would think Elliot, Hussey, Moss couldnt be too far away from being given a chance at a higher form
