I noticed that after 12 years in retirement, Pants' number 42 has been handed to our first pick Billy Morisson....
I do think its time that the number 42 is back in action, and must admit it will give me a great feeling to see it out on the field if/when this kid makes his debut.
I can see all the pies fans getting right behind Billy Morisson... i have the feeling this bloke will become a cult figure at Collingwood in the years to come due to the fact he'll wear 42 on his back, but boy, does he have some big boots to fill.

The way I read it he will only have it for one year. This quote comes from the AFL website:
"Meanwhile, Collingwood is poised to announce that from next year its number one draftee will wear guernsey 42, the number worn by former star Darren Millane who was killed in a car accident in 1991.
Morrison will be the first player to wear it since it was retired following Millane’s death."

From that I take it that our first draft pick next year will have the number in 2005. If that is the case it is possible that we may never see the number in the seniors again, anyway. |
