Delistings - Ben Marsh, Phil Read, etc

I reckon we should pick up Ben Marsh. I think he is 27 but but surely could have 2-3 season left in him. He would serve well as a backup ruckman if none of the other guys step up to the plate.

I still believe Cam Cloke, Guy Richards and Justin Crow are at least another full season away from being full time players in the seniors. At least this would give us some assurance especially if McKee is not in our future plans which is likely considering he didn't play in the grand final.

Also Phil Read could be handy. The guy has some talent.

Both these guys could be late picks in the national draft. I wonder if we could pull another Wakelin like pickup. And we all know how good that has turned out.

I initially thought Marsh could be handy, however we already have one cardboard cut-out and really if the club is serious about Richards they are going to have to start playing him, and I think Cameron Cloke is ready to step up. Marsh should only be an option if the club believes there are no kids worth trying with a low draft pick.

If there is a pick left in the pre-season draft why not? As long as he is happy to run around with Willi and get the odd game only. Then again, that is what he has been doing at Adelaide.

Why don't we also pick up: Jimmy Plunkett, Simon Fletcher, Andrew Merington, Anderw Eccles and GLEN MANTON.

They have all been just de-listed.

I agree PTP.

But, wasn't Shane Wakelin delisted? Just goes to show that not all delisted players are duds. Having said that, I'd prefer not to pick Marsh up.

Yes, Shane was delisted by the saints... but if i recall properly he was getting a regular senior game in the year he was delisted. He was axe because of his off-field behavior. he was pick up at the national draft at 52-54 (quiet high for someone that was axed.)

Just looking at Read's 2003 form. Wouldn't be surprised if MM has thoughts of picking him up.

Two years of hard-work to overcome two successive knee re-constructions finally paid off for forgotten West Coast Eagle Phillip Read at the MCG on Saturday.

In only his second game back – after missing all of the 2001 and 2002 seasons through injury – the tough 23-year-old played a key role in the Eagles’ 33 point victory over Melbourne on enemy soil.

Read not only had a game-high 23 possessions for the Eagles but kept Demons’ star Travis Johnstone in check throughout the afternoon.

It was a stunning return by a player, who admitted he thought his career was over when he did he suffered a second serious knee injury during the 2002 pre-season.

Jimmy Plunkett could be a handy player! And I reckon Read could be a chance. However I think we need to delist one more player (i.e. Mckee) to get a Preseason draft pick.

Phil Read would certainly be the pick of the bunch.

Jimmy Plunkett? Couldn't get a game in an injury depleted Carlton side. Don't think so.

I can see only one justification for taking Plunkett, and that's to replace Roop as the player with the silliest name.

There is no way anyone will pick up Jimmy Plunkett. When he first started at Carlton he got under everyones guard because they had such a strong midfield. Soon as clubs found him out [lack of pace] he was never the same.
