Eddie, Sam and Trev Unplugged

The Eddie Show came to town yesterday. Pie fixes are very rare here and Nick and I weren't going to miss this one.

The first part of the show consisted of Eddie, Sam and Trev doing individual stand-up. Most of this was lost on us as the organisers didn't have the acoustics worked out very well and most of what was said was lost in a boom of echoes and standing waves. Lunch was served so we got to eat without missing too much (silver lining).

After complaints were made the speakers were repositioned and we could hear what was going on. A 'Footy Show' panel was set up on stage with Mick McGuane, Danny Roach, Bucks and David Foster as the panel and then a hapless audience member was drawn out of a hat and conscripted on to the stage to play 'Who Wants to be an Alcoholic' with the grand prize being 52 slabs of VB.

The contestant was a Tigers supporter and nearly stumbled at the first question "Which is the greatest AFL Club of all time?" She managed to get through that one much to the appreciation of the audience (90% pies). Eddie wouldn't let her get any of the questions wrong, but she chickened out at 30 slabs. He told her at the beginning that the pre-requisite for winning the 52 slabs was to be vertical and breathing, but she obviously didn't trust him.

It was a great show with a good audience and just what we footy deprived Tasmanians needed at the beginning of the season to get us fired up.

Nick and I introduced ourselves to Eddie and Bucks after the show and they greeted us like long lost friends - it was great for both of us.

It was a timely reminder of why this site was originally created 6 years ago. I wanted Nick to grow up black and white. So, because I couldn't get him to the Club or the footy, we created the site to bring them to us. The internet has enabled Nick, a 16 year old kid in the bush, to be known by the President and players of the MIGHTY COLLINGWOOD FOOTBALL CLUB - how else could that have happened? Bloody amazing really.

By the way Newelly, if you're reading this, Bucks mentioned your name. He remembered you from the bb years ago, but he didn't elaborate why your name had stuck in his mind.

yeah thats cool that they went to tassie. i couldnt imagine not living in melbourne and being deprived of the footy.

Thanks Mike for the post. The Eddie show comes to Canberra soon and many magpies here are going, cannot wait now. Having Eddie here will generate memberships and support for Collingwood. North are working this town over like you would not believe in a quest to survive as a club. I know some people who are considering joining North instead of Collingwood this year as there are games in Canberra this year. I hold the view that if you once supported Collingwood and now support another club you were not a Collingwood person in the first place.
