MM says Games aint won on 1 qtr

Just interested in MM comments after the Crows game saying that 1 qtr doesnt win you a game. I believe it does

round 4 loss to Lions by 14 points they scored 7.1 to 2.4 in the 3rd qtr
round 5 loss to ESS by 66 points they scored 8.3.to 1.3 in the 4th qtr
round 6 loss to SYD by 20 points they scored 6.1 to 3.3 in the 3rd qtr
round 8 loss to WCE by 16 points they scored 7.5 to 3.0 in the 1st qtr
round 10 loss to Port by25 points they scored 7.3 to 2.2 in the 3rd qtr
round 19 loss to Lions by 39 points they scored 8.0 to 1.0 in the 1st qtr

even our wins are won on 1 big qtr efforts
round 3 v Geelong 8.3 to 0.1 in the last qtr
round 7 v Adelaide 7.1 to 4.3 in the last qtr
round 9 v Saints 8.4. to 0.6 in th 1st qtr and 7.5 to 2.4 in the last qtr
round 11 v Melb 7.1 to 2.5 in te 2nd qtr
round 13 v Bullies 6.2 to 0.3 in the 1st qtr
round 14 v Kangaros 7.3 to 4.1 in the 3rd qtr
round 16 v Tigers 7.3 to 2.3 in the 2nd qtr & 7.2 to 4.0 in the last qtr
round 17 v Blues 7.5 to 1.3 in the 1st qtr
round 18 v Geelong 6.2 to 1.4 in the 3rd qtr
round 20 v Adelaide 7.7 to 1.1 in the 3rd qtr

So many Wins/Losses in just a qtr of footy 1 qtr of brilliant footy can make or break you the game

All of our big first quarters were against the bottom teams....

There are only a few there that are won in 1 quater of footy, I don't think you can count the ones where we only won by 2 or 3 goals as quaters that win us the match. Also the essendon game in round 5 was won in the 2nd quater.

the essendon game the bombers kicked 6.2 to 4.0 at that stage and even 3qtr time we were in the game ...3qtr time was 15.7 to 11.6 ...final qtr was the qtr that blew the game away

pies4prem ....... yep a quarter can win a game ...... and often does.

its also linked to accuracy ...... 7.1 always hurts more than 1.7 ...... Sydney being the biggest benefactor of accurate kicking this year.

Lets hope we get on a roll and kick accurately, that 3.11 inthe second half against the lions didnt help our cause any either.

I still believe the essendon game was lost in the 2nd quater as they had all the momentem during it and all we did was stabilise it in the 3rd but the game was over at half time. Anyway enough about our losses let's just get off to a good start against Sydney this week

Great post Pies4Premiers. It just goes to show that a quick start is vital unless you want to be playing catch-up football.

no they cant

1 quarter can give a decisive advantage over the opposition, but a 4 quater performance needs to be attained in order to win a match. 1 quarter can blow a side away, but if you rest and beleive that 1 quater can win you the game, the other team, can fight back and overrun you.

The most recent example was spoken about by P4P

round 19 loss to Lions by 39 points they scored 8.0 to 1.0 in the 1st qtr

But we were a big chance of winning until halfway through the last quarter when they stormed away. The 7 goal head start gave them a decisive advantage, but didn't win them the game, as it wasn't over till midway throught the last.
