Look at the big picture guys, if you were a Brisbane player and some opposition supporters started singing "you take it up the arse etc", your first instict would be to want to snap them in half. You can't do that, so how else can you get back at them ?? By pummeling the team they support.
I'm not saying your abuse is the only reason they'd want to beat us, but it doesn't help !! Why do you think coaches are so diplomatic when talking about another team ?? Never give fuel to your opponents before a game, you can taunt them all you want after a victory !! |

I think we need to be careful to use our footy and Collingwood passion in the right way. I'll verbally abuse every opponent on match day and support my team with no holds barred BUT when the match has finished so should the abuse. Away from the sport, footballers have the right to be treated with respect as does every other person in our community.
Give 'em heaps on Saturday but think how we'd feel if our boys were publicly abused on the street or outside their hotel - I certainly wouldn't be impressed.
GO PIES!

I don't believe what was done was the correct way to go about it. I also believe that when someone does something like that, you get this fire inside you, adrenalin and it makes you perform better, and with more aggression,
Send them on there Merry way if we win, with a final "Goodbye" but nothing to insulting, as it is after all a game, and like all games when it's over and you cross the white line back off the arena all grudges are supposed to stop... _________________ "Carn the Pies" |

and would you stand for our boys being treated like that when they had to travel interstate? Weren't you all incensed when in Adelaide some supporter tried to put a cigarette out on Josh's head last year? and threw urine on the players?
It's actions like these that give ALL supporters of a club a bad name.
Yes, I know your young, and I know your passionate, but if the boot was on the other foot........ _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

That's not my idea of fun at all.
I love the game and I love the club. That doesn't mean behaving like a moron. By all means give 'em heaps at the game. Off the field, opposition players deserve as much respect as anyone else. If you think that makes me a pussy, bite me, or go and find yourself a soccer team in England.
Since you've asked what we all think of your actions: grow up.

That's just unbelievably daft. So should our players expect that kind of treatment as well? Because they're big tough guys on the field, they should be treated like dirt off it?
You're not kidding when you say your future's in your hands, mate... better get a grip on it! _________________ "The greatest thing that could happen to the nation is when we get rid of all the media. If Brisbane get extra motivation from that then thats pretty sad. Maybe Leigh Matthew can take them to a secondary school before the finals to fire up the players.
Akermanis talks more crap than any teenager does and gives opposition clubs plenty of ammunition with his comments. If that were the case Brisbane would lose every week according to your theories. IMO Brisbane players would take it with a grain of salt and move on.
There are worse things in life that teenagers could be doing. A bit of banter is pretty harmless when compared to drugs or vandalism etc

oh your are clever,i was going to stay out of this argument but when you said go find an english soccer club that hit a nerve
do you know ANYTHING about english soccer supporters (or soccer in genaral) or are you just asuming like other people in here that they are just thugs
and as for saying that oppisition players deserve respect off the field well i agree but what is wrong with a bit of banter like what has happened here (i bet the lions players didn't care at all) because that is all it was so it is you that has to grow up |

I cant believe how many pengiun clappers there are supporting us!
If the only thing you are all worried about is them getting even more pumped up for the game then GET A LIFE!
I like supporting a team that others hate, and i love having supporters that Cheer their side and also hound the opposition if we didnt do that we would have been supporting Melbourne.
If always enjoyed doing it and it shows how passionate supporters are, ok the kid is 14, get over it, when i was 14 i was twice as bad and i still am and i love it.
But that is why our game is great because of Passion and i think this kid has a bit more of it than others of you. _________________ I love Danny Allsopp, Danny Allsopp loves me! |

Look guys this topic is going a bit over the top. Fair enough what these kids did was pretty damn stupid. However I really doubt any of the brisbane players are going to get much motivation out of being shouted-at by 14-year olds. Its a pretty childish thing to do, but it doesnt rank with getting urine thrown at you.
And to geordie_matt, mate I'm a Newcastle fan too, and I reckon (unsurprisingly) that they have best bunch of fans in England. BUT hooliganism is still a BIG problem in soccer, though admittedly it has gotten better. This is definitely true in the lower leagues (Milwall anyone?), but almost every Premier League team has its hooligan element. And I'm not even going to go into Italian football and their right-wing, neo-Nazi ultras. _________________ "Here's to alcohol, the source of and answer to all of life's problems" |
