Post subject: Players out of contract this year | |
|
Interesting extracts from the Age this morning (see http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/articles/2003/07/02/1056825456954.html)
Quote: | Essendon's Scott Lucas, Collingwood's Anthony Rocca and Josh Fraser, Carlton's Brendan Fevola, Hawthorn's Nathan Thompson and Jade Rawlings, and Brisbane's Daniel Bradshaw are all uncontracted at season's end and, with the exception of Fraser and Rawlings, all play predominantly as key forwards. |
Quote: | Dockers coach Chris Connolly said the club required classy midfielders who were about 22 years of age and preferably West Australian.
Players in the category include Brisbane's Simon Black, Richmond's Mark Coughlan, Port Adelaide's Josh Carr, Collingwood's Tarkyn Lockyer, Adelaide's Tyson Stenglein and Geelong's Corey. |
Even though we did well with Taz and Clemo, it seems we still have some re-signing to do. |

Rocca.... no chance of him leaving, being vice captain and aruguably potential captain. What's more he strikes me as a very loyal man.
Tarkyn.... ditto vice captain and captain. I think he'd also be greatful that we were prepared to offer him a chance with a spot on our rookie list, when the WA clubs overlooked him.
Fraser.... there's no way club will let him go given that we aren't exactly blessed in ruck stocks atm, and he's developing nicely. |

Never say never Dan - ask the Melbourne supporters. However, I tend to agree that they probably wont go.
Some interesting morsels at the other clubs though. |

One of the biggest trades that looks likley is Chris Judd wanting to come home to Melbourne. Obviously West Coast arn't going to take any old bloke for him. Who would any of you put up to trade for Judd?
I wouldn't want anyone to leave but... even though Leon is a gun at times I feel he plays to much for himself and would be alot better in an eagles set up with Sampi and co. I'd trade him and a draft pick for Judd, who's younger than Davis anyway (8 sept 1983 to 17 june 1981) and possibly a future Brownlow medalist. Judd played International rules last year and was 3rd in West Coast's best and fairest.
The other bloke that seems destined to leave is Nathan Brown who wants more cash. |

This has been dealt with in both previous and current threads Tom. Judd had a thread all to himself a couple of weeks ago.
It's all very premature I think. Judd would command $400 grand and Leigh Matthews has speculated as much as $500 grand. For that you'd have to give up the likes of Chris Tarrant, who (thankfully) has just re-signed.
Judd is having a super season, but Headland and Travis Johnstone (both number one draft picks) had great seasons in 2002 that they haven't been able to reproduce so far this year.
I'm sure the hard heads in the administration will be looking at all possibilities in advance, but realistically we won't know anything about it until October.
