Yeah, might be worth a bit, particularly to a Collingwood supporter.

The whole celebrity autograph thing tends to irk me a bit. Actually its not the autograph as such, its more the money side that often comes with it. I wouldnt buy an autograph, be it Millane or anyone elses (the exception being if the money was to go purely to a charitable cause). I certainly wouldnt be selling an autograph for hugely inflated profits. I believe that an autograph is something meaningful, and not something that can be "bought" over the counter at the shops. I really dont like shops that play on peoples emotions causing them to fork out huge amounts of money for someones scribble that they themselves obtained for next to nothing.

I would gladly accept an autograph of Millane or anyone else that i admire if someone was willing to give it to me, however to put a price on such a thing to me diminishes its value, or actually detracts from my idea of an autograph in the first place. I think an autograph is something for the fans, something that costs no money and no time to make, but something that allows the fan or admirer a chance to get close to the person they look up to in a way they'd not normally be able to do. It creates a sense of connection, and to me i believe this connection cant be bought for the sake of individual greed and profit.

I am fortunate enough to have many Collingwood players autographs and occassionally i will look at them and be reminded of the memories they gave me. These are ones I got through attending training sessions or unexpectedly bumping into players somewhere and they were good enough to give me a few seconds of their time. I have a some of other sports stars too, mainly tennis players, with one i my most prized being that of Frank Sedgeman (winner of grand slam tourneys in the early 50's). This one I didnt get myself, it was given to me by a friend. However the fact that my friend thought about doing this for me and then Mr Sedgeman signing a personal best wishes message to me still makes it special.

I admit i do look at autograph stores, with the signed sports memorabilia and i am sometimes in awe at the stuff on display, but seeing a ridiculous price tag attached to it and thinking about the money hungry "entrepreneur" and how he / she came about the autograph tends to diminish my awe factor.

I think the whole situation is not helped by the fakes that are in existence. Having seen first hand a mate being charged in excess of $800 by one such established shop for an "authentic" product that was later found to be quite the contrary seemed to justify the opinion I have had of these places all along.

I think autographs should be and generally are given by the the person from whom they originate with the intention of goodwill. I think this goodwill and the meaningfulness of the product to an individual can be lost extremely quickly when money starts trading hands in exchange for it.

Sorry magpie 1983, i didnt mean to storm your thread, but you've just provided me with a nice place to have my say Very Happy I reckon if your neighbour is a decent type, and since the autograph obviously holds very little meaning to him (apart from greed), then he'd kindly just give it to you. But since he's a carlton fan then i'm guessing you better mortgage the house or sell your bicycle if you want it.

I think an autograph only means something if you get it yourself.

People should not profit from getting an autograph given by the player in good faith. It is a low act.
