On grumpy old men on wednesday next week, Thorold will be one of the guests.

What a classy footballer and a lovely bloke.
Master of the stab pass and drop kick.
Won the Copeland in 1958 and '59.
Wore the #17 for 10 years - '51 to '60 and was selected on the wing in our Team of the Century.
I'll be watching, Ed.

My Mums All time Favourite player....Ia m sure she will be watching with interest. I love listening to my mum as he explains hwo she used to watch him in action..sounds like a dead set champion.

It was great stuff, watched it lastnight, I could watch old time Collingwood players talk about footy for hours and hours.... its a shame that we don't have much video footage or pictures of old time football.

Best GOM for a while, although they're all pretty good. Especially for a long time follower of VFL/AFL/Collingwood.
The following is not word for word but you'll get the drift. Bobby Davis is telling the story.
It seems Thorold almost played for Geelong but when the coach, Reg Hickey - famous Cats' hard man - saw him he laughed and remarked about his size, or lack of it. "You sure ya not a jockey. Hahaha?"
Whoever had introduced him to Hickey said, "Oh but he's a champion in the making" Hickey says, "Oh yeah. I suppose he can kick a bag of wheat 70 yards with either foot!"
"No. But he can kick a bag of wheat straight up a chook's arse from 40 yards without even ruffling the feathers !!" 
Merrett played his first game for the Pies at age 16 and played for 10 years. Was great to see him again.

Sounds like he had alot of fun before becoming an AFL footballer then, shame I am too young to know who he is, but I am betting my parents do.
