He can't go on this - imagine the precident.
2003 grand final, Pies one point up, voss shooting for goal 25 meters out directly in front, pack of players in the goalsquare and fraser pushes pike into the goal umpire.
whistle blown, free reversed, siren sounds, the umpires look like absolute and utter clowns.

It would be ludicrous to start penalising players for making contact with goal umpires. Players HAVE to run into goal square to either score, mark or spoil - at the same time the goal umpire HAS to choose the best position to judge whether a goal has been scored. Collisions are going to happen in this area regardless of what the AFL try to do.
Is a backman supposed to stand back and not try to get a hand on the ball to spoil a goal because he'll get rubbed-out for touching a goal umpire? Should a full-forward not try and shephard a goal through or fly for a screamer in the goal square because he might bump into the goal umpire? Maybe the answer is two goal umpires so if one's busy getting out of the players way, the other can still watch the flight of the ball.
Geez, what's our game coming to?!?!?!?!?!?!?
GO PIES!

I thought the afl came together and decided their not going to punish players for acidently clashing with umpires? |

Hopefully he does not get done.I agree with u m83 get out of the way umps.
With so many of them out there the probability of hitting them is very high.
If an umpire appears tp be deliberately hit then that is different then.
Throw the book at a deliberate hit. |

One other thing is that I used to be an umpire years ago.If a player ran into me accidently at no point did I feel that the player should have been reported. In fact we just had a laugh and that was it.It is big brother going way to far. |

If the umpires just stood still no one would bump into them......goal or field. _________________ Kaylene.
