Well you are right re the copyright registration in Australia, because unlike in the UK, you dont have to register it, like you do in London. As I say, I work with it here so my knowledge is London based.
"Copyright protection is automatic; there is no system of registration in Australia. A work does not need to be
published, or have the copyright notice on it, to be protected. From the time it is first written down or recorded
in some way it is protected, provided it has resulted from its creator’s skill and effort and is not simply copied
from another work."
But here is what I meant re the statement of noting this on the website. (reproduced under copyright)
"You should first check to see if there is a statement about copyright on the web site – web site proprietors often
state what they permit and do not permit in relation to material on the site.
If there is no statement about copyright, you may be able to imply, from the fact that the copyright owner has
made the material available on the Internet, that the copyright owner permits people to print and/or download
the material". permission to print and/or download"
And now that you have a copyright statement, you are well able to feel secure.
I am sorry Mike. You seem to think I was criticising, when I was merely trying to suggest ways to protect this site. For some reason I detect some type of tone of writing. I wasnt trying to tell you what to do, merely suggest ways to fix the complaints ppl had logged.
"The argument is now academic - we have a copyright statement available at the bottom of the front page of the Bulletin Board."
On other sites we visit over here, they insist everyone logs on to view content.Whilst this wont fix the problem of ripping, it does stop people and make them think before they do something perhaps untoward. What do you think.
Sorry for sticking my nose in.[/quote] _________________ The Knights of Abbotsford |

You're welcome to stick your nose in Anne. I wasn't upset and didn't think you wre criticising. I was just pointing out that your reference contradicted your post.
I just like a good debate, particularly when I know that I'm right. My problem is that I don't like smilies much and consequently don't use them very often or in the right place so my posts can seem more serious than they are - especially if you miss my beautifully crafted and subtle attempts at humour.
Please continue to stick your nose in whenever you feel that it's necessary. I'm not precious... really. |

Well I think we will draw the line and say we were both right. I agree with you re the copyright in Australia. I think I explained why I made the mistake, but I will take the nod re the site statement on web publishing and notation on your site. Isnt it a nice world when we can all be right in our own right..lol...!! I think you will agree that we are better protected now, and all is well. And perhaps it would have been nicer than rather than looking for fault, you thanked someone for advice.
You sometimes do have an authoritarian tone that can be interpretted at rude, like the statement re the argument. I wasnt arguing, I was merely trying to assist. _________________ The Knights of Abbotsford

That sounds like a good compromise - we were both right. Why didn't I think of that.
"The argument is academic" is just a well used phrase that's all. I use it all the time when something happens to make a conversation redundant. It wasn't meant to imply that we were having an argument. |

"Off the beaten track" Cheer squad member 'Joffa' has reportedly said the reception in Adelaide was so chilly many of his cheer squad mates have vowed never to return."
And you all thought Eddie was everywhere.....now Joffa is |

Just on that note a few days earlier i saw an article in Scott Palmers section (?) about the different categories of football supporter. They made a tongue in cheek comment about "proffessional idiots" ie Joffa.
They also had a pic with him in his suit and wooden spoon
Anyone else read this? |
