Telstra security assault 11 year old girl

Tonight (3/5/03) after the game, I and many others witnessed an assalt towards an 11 year old girl. My daughter, Sophie, was the victim of an over zealous security guard. This event happened about 20 minutes after the game had finished, when LesLey Benhem, a commitee member of the Collingwood Cheer Squad was organising places for next weeks game and was being told to move away from the cheer squad area. The security guard (number 196) was being quite rude and offensive towards LesLey and was swearing at her in Greek. LesLey understands fluent Greek. People were gathering around to see what was happening while the security guard was threatening LesLey by telling her that he would confiscate her paper work, in a threating manner, if she did not vacate the area and I quote,

" I don't care if you are a female, I will still rip those papers off you."

The security guard took action because LesLey was standing her ground and ripped the papers from her lap, Sophie the was quite upset about what he had done and decided to make her self heard just when he stopped, looked in sophie's general direction and without any duty of care, WHACKED Sophie, an 11 year old girl, in the mouth, causing her bottom lip to swell up and start bleeding. I know for a fact that there were many witnesseses and they would back me up by saying he didnt even try to apologise and instead laughed about it as though it was funny.

After almost 30 years of following Collingwood through the best and worst of times, I have seen many many over officious acts committed by so-called "professionals", but this incident, regardless of my relationship and love of my daughters, is to me, the most vile and purile act I have ever seen.

What do others think???????

The police know everything and its under controll. I've filed complaints, and I assume he was sent away in his own personal divvy van.

The guy should be arrested.....fired and given a rather large fine...not to mentionthe fact that he should have to personally apologise for his actions and the Telstra Dome Officials should be held accountable as well.....

My 11 Year old Nephew had his Collingwood Membership Hat ripped from his head and then the Lions Mascot jumped up and down on it..then slammed it back on his head really hard.....this kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable and the people involved..and the onlooking officials and police who stand by and do nothign shoujld also be reprimanded....

If our over-zealous security guard doesn't go the proverbial row-of-latrines over this, there will something very wrong going on. You can't have thugs like this in charge of crowd control.

Seeing the police have it in hand....Definately write a letter to the Editor of say the Herald Sun to highlight the type of people that TD are employing as Security (definately saying his Security Number). What sort of process do they use to employ these THUGS and that's what he was, hitting a young girl or anyone is deplorable. And take photos of her lip as evidence.

I hope your daughter is ok and realises that not everyone is like this THUG.

Its a disgrace. The security at Colonial have no idea about how to handle a football crowd. They have a stupid night club thug mentality.

It may well be worth mentioning that since Colonial decided to drop Chubb security how these events seem to be happening *too* often.

It was obviously a 'cost cutting' exercise and something that would have to be addressed as it is in the interest of 50,000 people each week, who is 'controlling' the crowd in the event of an emergency.

The current company are no more than a haggle of glorified thugs.

I don't feel safe knowing they would be in charge in the event of an emergency.

Exactly - at my workplace, all the security is Chubb. They are clearly the best and most professional.

He said the only way anything would happen to re-instate Chubb, would be for the public to get involved.

They should be the same security as they have at the MCG wonderful guys at the 'G' they come down prior to all games and have a chat and a joke they have been the best.
