Sorry to not continue this Buckley bashing but thought I might get back on topic about the impending retirement of Swanny
Has there ever been a player you could bet your house on to play nearly any role the team require with success so often ?
He's been a true great of the game without doubt.
Marched to the beat of his own drum and admitted he wasn't the most enthusiastic trainer and often took short cuts but come game day he was simply amazing.
He was in my opinion the main reason behind our success in 2010/11/12
Yes we brought in some other talent like Ball & Jolly but they were to compliment him he was the general leading the troops.
I was listening to a few people talk about the type of injury he suffered at a rugby league luncheon the other week and they all agreed it's a 2yr injury at best and the older you get the harder it is to recover from.
Swanny all the best mate in your future hope to see you knocking back a few schooners one day in a local bar |

Honestly despite what others might say, the very best player I've ever seen put on a Pies guernsey (with apologies to P.Daicos <3 ). |

End of an Era now.
Jake Niall confirmed it on AFL tonight on Foxtel.
Swanny cannot run apparently, and he still has a noticeable problem when he walks on it.
New Pies generation now, almost all the premiership heroes are gone. _________________ Social club member 7342 since 2000. |

Swanny leaving is the end of an era
Never be as passionate about any Collingwood side or group again...
Don't want to go down the obvious road again, but "my" Collingwood, the Side by Side/Army years, are now gone...
But tomorrow should be about the best player I've ever seen play for Collingwood...enjoy your retirement Swanny _________________ We just got nutted at the clearances... |

So is that it, is it?
Need to hear it confirmed tomorrow, but on top of Toovey and Macaffer retiring today, so sad. |

IF he retires, along with mc caffer, tooves and cloke leaving, we are going to be a very young team next season. That has a great upside, but if swannie does go, I now think we should perhaps keep cloke as insurance for Moore. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

What "some of us see that you cannot" (to answer your question) is that doubt and an appreciation of uncertainty are the hallmarks of good judgement ; the present only hints at the future, it does not tell it.
I think those hints are that we are ripening, you seemingly think it is certain that we are not. You also state categorically that this is the "best list in the game". That is not only dubious, it has no basis in current evidence - in supercoach points, browlow votes, expert opinion, or anything else. Those who will not doubt, always suffer the most frustration. |
Yep, multiple posters have submitted lengthy posts outlining responses to his rants so the issue isn't that responses aren't forthcoming, rather that it appears he is so busy re-writing War and Peace that he just doesn't even take the time to read them. |

Be very sad to see Swanny's great career end this way, he certainly earned better, but have to respect his decision if that's what he announces. Will always be remembered as a legend of the club and sits comfortably among Greening, Carmen, Daicos, Moore, McGuane, Wright, and Buckley as the best I've seen at Pieland, and the most entertaining. |
