Top bloke, always on for a chat in the social club after the game. An all time favourite. |

It was fascinating viewing. A real insight into what players have to go through to get back on the park after injury or while carrying injuries!
A top bloke indeed Jackcass. Humble, yet so brave, tough and courageous.
We can only imagine what sort of captain Darren Millane would've made. I bet he would've been absolutely inspiring. |

You had to have watched a lot of Rhys-Jones playing over the years to understand why that was, at the time, more or less universally applauded by independent supporters.
And here's that mark from 1984 (courtesy of a link John Wren posted in another thread): http://ken-cdn220-is-12.se.bponlinewoc2264.ngcdn.telstra.com/platform_release/675/789/WEB_BANKS_MOTY_RD13_WEB_S_1009957064__100912.mp4
Here's a link to the CFC site with (I think) the same footage and a detailed article from June 2014 for the 30th anniversary of the mark: http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2014-06-12/banks-screamer-30-years-on
Like a lot of brilliant marks over the years (Carman's against North Melbourne in the forward pocket at the Yarra Falls End, right underneath the TV cameras is another), the film footage really doesn't capture how high he was - at the Western Oval, from behind the goals, it was quite startling.
One of the things that's been lost in history about that mark, largely because Collingwood lost the game on the last kick, is that Banksy's first half, playing at CHF, was absolutely breathtaking - he was unstoppable for 60 minutes (the mark was taken in that period). Unfortunately, because he was brilliant, fearless but also so slight (he was probably small for a HFF), he spent years playing in key positions for which his body just wasn't built (to put that in context, he was the same height as Dane Swan and 4 kgs lighter). Unsurprisingly, he ran out of petrol that day. |
I was at the game where Banksy took that mark and it literally happened right in front of me on the outer side at the Whitten oval.It looked even better being on nearly the same level as him.Sadly though, the same game had the infamous Gubby cross goal kick which went straight to simon Beasley about 20 mtrs our.We were 4 points up with seconds to go and we got done by 2 points??? I think. And I lost $20 to my mate who was a Doggy fan. I copped heaps from him over the years, but Banksys mark still lingers in the memory bank. |

To compare, we reckon Oxley is skinny albeit a great mark, and he's 8cm taller and only 3kg heavier than Banks was.

Banks was such a gun, and as mad loyal to the jumper and his mates as anyone I've seen or heard of. I Was at Dandenong FC one night after a game with Sean Millane and others when Banksy walked in with Pants and Grant Fielke. They took the joint over buying drinks for the bar and telling stories. At one point the other 2 were arguing about who got to pay for the next lot waving a grey nurse back and forth when Pants comes up and grabs the note, tears it in half, and eats it! Then without batting an eyelid pulls out his money clip stuffed with 100s and peels off a pair for the barman. He was as funny a bloke as I ever met, and he and Banksy were like a comedy act. Both of them had an amazing presence. I imagine everyone there knew who they were, but even if they didn’t they had every eye on them within a minute, and you always knew where they were in the room. Huge personalities with huge ability. Imagine having a Millane around these days?! There might be a nephew or two kicking around soon!? _________________ "If at first you dont succeed...
