its not the count of frees, its the manner in which they were/were not given

I know what you are saying, but if you really scrutinise every contest you could pick out a hold, too high etc free kick. the umps always pick a tiggy touchwood frees and they are always close to goal and then they do not pay the same incident at the other end maybe there needs to be a new stat goals from soft free kicks.

Or blatant non frees as well...eg. Stanton pushing Shaw out, nothing given.

Can just be summed up by the non free when Laycock took the ball out of the ruck, tried to take players on, got tackled, dropped the ball, and nothing was given.

Well that and the 15 other dodgy free kicks that went against us.

It also appears that if you were the #5 jumper for Essendon, it is very much like the immunity idol on Survivor.

That was a classic, so was the Hille push in the back, or the 50 against Medders. All perfect examples of hair-trigger umpiring.

Worst part was having to listen to Quarterbrain at the same time. Even Chrisso was pathetic today. Terrible day all round. Next.

Oh i know.

Im not a violent person...but theres two commentators i would punch out if i saw them. Quarterbrain is one of them.

He openly preaches his hate of Collingwood on the radio...and this is not some overly sensitive Collingwood supporter misreading some comment...i was listening to Triple M (i think) one day when i was down in Melbourne and he said those exact words...and went on about why for a few minutes. Then he thought he should reign it in a bit and said "oh yeah, but i hate the 15 other clubs too."

Token gesture that made the Quarter-Brain tag a reality.

He is insufferable.

I agree with you all, it seems there was an agenda today, however that shouldnt stop us from still playing like we want top 4!!

The umpiring decisions (lets not count them) were some of the worst i have seen in the last few years, though as a few of you have said, i dont think it should stop a quality side from showing some ticker, a few players excepted of course.

That's funny, cos I never saw the umpires pile on the first 5 goals. I'm sick of players giving away silly 50 m penalties. Yeh, they might be soft, the smart thing to do would be not to tempt fate.

Funny you should say that Franki, because from memory 3 of those 5 were resultant from free kicks. Wink

I agree though, the Medhurst one was wrong and he did nothing wrong...but the Cloke one and the others really shit me. DONT ARGUE!...its SO pointless.

Mind you, what did the umpire say to cloke? "dont point at me"....grow up you maggot, you're not his mother, telling him not to point is absurd.

We have a right to be angry - very bloody angry. But I don't think the umpires were cheating, just they had no clue!

Seriously, do you need to flunk an IQ test to get a gig as an AFL umpire these days?

The umpiring was crap, but it didn't cost us the game. It didn't help mind you.

Our players need to be more disciplined. Dodgy umpiring decisions are a fact of life, as sure as death and taxes. Getting upset about it only ruins your focus.

That is a serious alegation there Mate.

If you truly believe that, you should never watch another game of footy again as you are bassically talking about a form of match fixing.
