I don't know if enough players debut each year but I think it would be good to name an AFL wide All First Year Team. Simply name a team consisting of just first year players. Possibly do it in conjunction with naming the All Australian side.
What does everyone think?

not a bad idea. particularly in a year like this has been for rookies, only one bloke can win the rising star. mcgough, judd, reiwoldt, bartel etc etc should all be given a bit of recognition.

its not a bad idea, but its just to hard to fill all the possitions on field. i mean it has been a good year for rookies but not good enough to fill a whole side ala all australian.
In the NBA they have an all-rookie team each year. (at their allstar break they play first year players against second year players.) but in basketball it can be done easily as they only have to fill 5 starters and 5 bench players, and thats with a choice of rookies from 29 teams.

Yeah you are probably right. Although this year there have been quite a few first year players on the scene, ie. at Collingwood, Geelong etc.

You guys are probably right about the lack of numbers. Maybe an under 20 team might be the go. I just think young players should be recognised more than just the rising star award.
