This forum continues to surpise and anger me. But why am I surprised? I log on and read that Ryan Lonie is soft, weak, a hack, useless and damaging for the club. It was 'his fault' for Rhyce Shaw being touted as trade bait, and his fault that we lost the Preliminary Final, and his fault that we lost in 1980.

FFS.

This is disgusting. Shameful, almost. I'm a Lonie critic, but that's only because we have seen what he is capable of. He's not as hard at it as others and could be considered expendable BUT PLEASE! Do you have to be as vitriolic as you all are? Makes me just shake my head.

Ditto the way people just slam Guy Richards. Again, he's not great, maybe he's one who's got to go, and if he does, I won't agree but I won't be overly angry. But, boy oh boy, you call yourselves Collingwood supporters. Hack or star, he gives his all for the cause, regardless of what all of us armchair scribes think. He may be no good, he may have to go, but say it with respect. Seriously, you wonder why you bother turning up here to read after our onfield campaign concludes. Just a gentle reminder to all, don't post absolute rubbish that does not add to the topic nor give us any information - especially one liners. We come here, or at least I know I do, to find out the latest information quickly and then discuss it to a decent extent. I don't come here to find out who is listening to SEN nor do I wish to waste my bandwidth deleting posts. Just a slagfest. I'm just over all this, surely there is a better place where the considered opinions can be put across????

Off the soapbox for now, but FSS it's just nuts sometimes here.

EB&W usually has measured discussions but the format is very unfriendly.

i think the general tone of all threads could be lifted and that people should stop and think about what it is they are posting and whether it really is going to add value or create a thought provoking discussion rather than the drivel and streams of consciousness that we are subjected to.

as much as the mods are here to do a job i think the onus is on all of us not to tolerate some of the shite that gets posted without being accused of backseat moderation.

if you have some time google the 'elysian monkey' and read about the environment they have created for themselves. they foster an environment where outsiders and those with anti social tendencies have no choice but to comply to the order of the day otherwise they are sent on their merry way. all new comers end up adapting very quickly and enjoy a quality lifestyle.

control only what you can, don't worry about the things you can't influence but lead from the front. make sure each post is a quality read and has a real purpose about it. change can be effected from the ground up but it needs the support of the majority to be successful.

EDIT: two other things, is it possible some people could stop and read the thread titles already available rather than just posting a new topic which sees us having 17 different threads on the same thing.

and lastly, geez you've got me going here, far from being the spelling police but can people just make a little effort to get the spelling, even typing right in the thread titles. before you click on one of the buttons, have a read of what has just been typed.

right, i'm coming down from a great height so hopefully i won't hurt myself, next .....

I 100 per cent agree. In any case, Lonie wants to stay in Melbourne, his father died two years ago and wants to stay close to his mother. Surely this must be respected.

We are supposed to be supporters.

Infact I believe there is a culture that tolerates this sort of blind hatred at Collingwood. If you look at lulie street dash forum it is at its worst. I think moderators on fan forums have the opportunity to change this. That's why it pleases me no end when useless hacks like Magpie Greg are banned from every forum.

Johnson 26 if someone posts utter crap it should be deleted i my opnion.

Again very good post!

Well said Luke.
Nick's is a quality product and the standard should be kept up whenever possible.
We are not all great authors but being objective (ie keeping criticism on the football side of things) rather than subjective ( ie,"I hate Lonie")is an aspect we can fix with proper moderation, it is called duty of care, delivered by the moderators.

Johnno i've been saying this for a long time, but I keep getting told "everyone is entitled to an opinion"

The amount of personal abuse of players on this site (i don't go on other pie sites so don't know) is disgusting, has been for a long time. The only way it will be stamped out is if mods start deleting or carding those who attack the players simply to attack..

The whole "I hate lonie" thread, in my book, should have been deleted straight up, but that's backseat moderating, and that's not allowed. lol.

oops...and I just read the post above...saying something similar

while we're at it, Lonie is an "outside" player. You know, one of those players you need OUTSIDE the packs so you can get the ball to them because of their accurate, long, penetrating kicks. But some just don't get that...

I agree 100%.
There will always be banter and a bit of piss taking about some of our players on this site but to start Hate threads about our own is too much.

I guarantee if Lones was at training and he was approached for an autograph and refused or he ignored that person, there would be an uproar but who could blame him.
When our own supporters turn against him in this kind of way its pathetic.

If he is traded then he's traded. All the best with your new club.

If he stays then he stays. Get behind him and I dont mean to ream him.

Well said Jonno

Agree

Lets not get like Carlton supporters who are bagging their own captain of late

Doing things like this to our own only feeds the opposition as well.

Well said Luke, totally agree.
I am really mystified when we badger our own especially when one week his a star and the next a dud.
Some people should really look at themselves and be moore constructive.

It's a thin line between what some people class as over the top criticism versus, well rounded discussion on what is the reality of the club, or certain players.

I think it is too far to call players a 'waste of space' etc, however, I do believe that people should be able to discuss the weaknesses of players, ie. Guy Richards doesn't move around the ground too well, or Ryan Lonie just isn't living upto the standard he set 4 and 5 years ago, or Shane O'Bree can be wasteful at times (though atleast he gets it).

it was pretty disgraceful really. to not realise that the player you are bagging is actually just another human being like you seems to be the issue. it's about a fundamental lack of respect.

footy is a tough game, don't get me wrong, and you have to have a very thick hide to be a footy player - but you are supposed to cop the crap from the outside, not from within - otherwise you end up being.....Richmond.

I always think that players sometimes might look at these fansites, and I want to give them the respect they deserve, after all it is them that are playing for our great club, not us armchair experts.
