The confirmed quarter finalists are India, West Indies, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan. New Zealand will almost certainly make it but Japan are a mathematical possibility. The last spot will be one of South Africa and the UAE. |

For those curious: Tanveer Sangha is not related to Jason Sangha. |

Australia will need 234 to make the semi-final. They had India down for the count but let them scramble to 9/233, after they were 6/144. Australia can’t run this down on what I’ve seen from them. Still, they acquitted themselves well, given that they’ve lost their last 5 on the trot against India. |

Jake F-MCG was just run out by Fanning without facing a ball. “So, it’s goodnight from me .... And it’s goodnight from him.” |

Oz all out 159 (43.3).
India won by 74 runs.
In the 42nd over, India took a team hat-trick (caught behind, run out, bowled). |

Jake Fraser-McGurk was "attacked by a monkey" and is flying home for treatment.
(Are there any more games for Oz, anyway? Answer: a consolation game on Sunday.)
This sounds like a Collingwood-type injury. Can Jake play CHF? Maybe a bit small... |

Oz scraped home against Afghanistan with 1 ball to spare.
Afghanistan 7/191
Oz 6/195 (49.5)
POTM Sangha.
How you rate this depends on how you rate Afghanistan.
Mixed performances from the Casual-Racism Five.
(They also reminded me of Will Sutherland, James Sutherland's son, trashing a hotel room in the past, possibly with teammates, and CA hushing it up. ) |

... as Australia try to salvage horror U19 world cup
"The Australians will play West Indies, to whom they lost to in the group stage, at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Friday.
The Australians' campaign has been best by poor luck and controversy, with two wickets in that opening match coming as the result of run-outs at the non-strikers end due to ricochets of the bowler.
Then, several players were accused of casual racism after qualifying for the quarter-finals against India.
India eliminated Australia from the main part of the tournament in that quarter-final, with highly rated batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk run out for a diamond duck.
Fraser-McGurk was then sent home for medical treatment after being scratched on the face by a monkey prior to that match."
(AAP)
[I don't know if "horror" is too strong, but "several players" may be too weak; it was almost half the team!] |
