Finally a second wicket, after a 137-run partnership. but there'll need to be many more.

Who is there to take a flood of wickets?
Cummins has 3 overs left, but has been smacked for over 9 runs an over. 
Finch and Marnus have bowled one ineffective over each.
The wicket-takers Agar & Zampa are almost bowled out.

The feelings of everyone about Oz's inadequate total turned out to be totally right. India did not even need the injured Dhawan to bat.
In slogathon conditions, you need someone who can hit a 52-ball 80, as KL Rahul did in the second ODI. I guess the selectors hoped Turner would be able to become that player.
Of course, it'd help if you don't run out your captain. It's never a good look when both batsmen are at the same end. |

Finch, Smith to discuss run out over beer
"Aaron Finch and Steve Smith will talk out their mid-wicket mix up over a beer after the Australian white-ball captain fumed when he was run out against India.
A furious Finch blew up when he was run out for 19, as they both ended up at the same end of the Bangalore pitch in Sunday's series-deciding one-day international.
Smith returned to make his ground after hitting the ball to backward point, while Finch was stranded and run out by half the pitch in Australia's seven-wicket loss.
An angry Finch then yelled in Smith's direction as he left the ground, with Smith appearing to respond "I called no"."

Finch was interviewed on the FTA BBL coverage last night.
He said he told Smith on the pitch, "You called yes!", and Smith claimed he called no.
They also reminded him of when he was run out a few years ago by Wade and as a "bonus" tore his hamstring. |

I'm not sure, Dyso. The aftermath is easier to see. I think you can see Finch say "f***" as he walks off. I'll look for some video when I can. The ball was behind square, so in standard practice it would have been Finch's call, though of course you can always turn it down.
I do recall Smith having several mixups in Tests from the Ashes on. Like S. Waugh, when it ends in disaster, the victim always seems to be the guy he's batting with, not him. |

P4S, to form a less biased view, you should imagine a charity match in which Smith has egregiously run out Brodie Grundy (or one of the two extra Grundies drafted with the picks saved by not trading Beams back in).

It sounds like there's a "yes" (presumably Finch). Smith's bat-pointing looks like a "no" gesture, but he's always twirling his bat around like a lunatic. (Sometimes I fear he's going to wipe out his stumps, and then it'll be in the hands of the umpires whether it's hit wicket or dead ball.) |

Maxwell was named in both Oz's T20 and ODI squads for S. Africa. Wade is also in both squads. Stoinis missed both.
'Hohns said Stoinis was first reserve for both formats, but had been considered only for a top-order role.
"(Stoinis) was unlucky to miss out due to the makeup of the current top order," Hohns said.
"It is terrific to have a backup player of his calibre in such good form."'

Thanks K; well I'm in the Finch-camp here.
It was behind square, so his call being the non-striker.
Smith just had to put his head down and run, and he would have made his ground safely.
Old news now, but just another example of Langer's putrid coaching.
