But who may recover sufficiently both in mind and body and help lift us to greater heights in 2020. His extended time out of footy may be just what he required to get back to full health. |

Very anticlimactic but that’s life. Win some, lose some. |
You can still trade picks right up until and including draft day.
If next year's draft isn't as good as this year's, and we are probably getting this Reef kid anyway on a discount, we don't need the amount of picks we have in next year's draft. It's a bit like last year, all our selections were academy or father son.
I reckon we'll trade some of the three 2nd rounds we have over the next two years, and/or possibly next year's first round, to get back into this year's first round. |
Yes, I had forgotten about the extension in trading picks.
It’s a fairly flexible position to be in with one 2nd rounder this year and one first and two second rounders next year.
They can sit down and prioritise their needs over the next few weeks and tweak accordingly. I have no doubt McInness is part of their 2020 draft plans, so whatever is left over can be thrown into this years draft position if that’s the way they want to go. |

Tom Wilson - looked pretty good in his VFL games last season - very highly rated junior footballer who pursued BBall and has now come back. |
We also beat out the Hawks and the Cats for his signature. Surely all three clubs couldn’t be that far off the mark |

Be careful now. Last time, your reply like that tempted me into commenting on your post and then the **** hit the fan. |

I agree Cam.
I have a feeling that we'll be like the 'Aints and Western Welfare come trade period this time next year and be knee deep in it.
I'm not going to include Pendles, Grundy, Moore or DeGoey as I'm confident we'll keep all 3. That leaves question marks over all of the below. Sam Murray is as good as gone and Levi Greenwood won't be (surely) offered a new deal this time next year.
Matthew Scharenberg (2020)
Chris Mayne (2020)
Callum Brown (2020)
Travis Varcoe (2020)
Josh Daicos (2020)
Will Kelly (2020)
Nathan Murphy (2020)
Tim Broomhead (2019)
Flynn Appleby (2020)
Will Hoskin-Elliott (2020)
Rupert Wills (2019)
Tyler Brown (2020)
Isaac Quaynor (2020)
Ben Crocker (2019)
Atu Bosenavulagi (2020)
Brody Mihocek (2020)
Anton Tohill (2020)
Jack Madgen (2019)
Max Lynch (2019)
Mason Cox (2020)
Mark Keane (2020)
Also - at what stage or actually, age, does the not counting a veteran's full salary as part of the cap? Pendles should be in that group.
I think Ned Guy is playing it smart. The media is blowing up this salary cap issue but I think the Pies know what they're doing. |

Indeed, with that company assessing his ability worthy of a spot, regardless of your personal opinion on Hine, you'd have to agree he's got something.
I recall reading somewhere that had he pursued footy, he would have been a top 10 draft pick with some reports being top 5... purely speculative and untested of course so those spruiking it had nothing to lose. |

Thanx for replying. Honestly thought it was a misprint or error by the media. Never read about this fella coming on the books at all. The official site has nothing about him which is very strange. Guess ill be googling this fella now. _________________ Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero. |

We save some cash as well
As for Paton he’s on reported $650k next year for a guy coming off 3 knees it’s a risk
If we take him and he goes down not only have we spent the cash we have t improved our chances on winning a flag but limits our available cash
Jenkins is damaged goods according to reports
Heard a whisper he couldn’t go back to crows no matter what had some issues involving leaks to media about team mates
He wasn’t worth the cash they wanted covered on his current deal
If we took either of them even on a discount rate paying say only $250k a season how would nicks react if we lost Grundy Moore JDG for the sake of $250k a season going forward but we had a broken down Paton on the list or Jenkins who was doing nothing
I think we’ve been very quiet for the simple fact or cash is earmarked for Grundy
He’s the centrepiece of our crown moving forward
Lock him in it’s easier to sell the vision going forward to Moore JDG etc
Build a team capable of being top 4 for next 5 years when these guys will be in the prime
Don’t be surprised if keeping them does cost us a player or 2 we really don’t want to lose but we will need to
Keeping Scharenberg makes sense
He’s contracted next season and hopefully he gets a full season
The upside for us is simple right now he’s trade value is down because of his injury history
He plays 20 games next season and plays to his potential and all of a sudden his value is back up into a early second round pick
Also there is no guarantee we will see Langdon again
His problematic knee isn’t going to all of a sudden fix itself so Scharenberg is a automatic in our best 22
People need to look back on how he was playing in 2018 before his last knee to know what he’s capable of
Our powder is dry and I’m confident we will get Grundy
Trying to lure a player of his ilk away from his current club is difficult unless the player really wants to leave then your fighting a losing battle to start with
Ned Guy isn’t a dill he has a plan |
Spot on - all of it.
fact is there was not the dominant key forward on offer anywhere. Daniher the closest but wanted Swans - he is a RFA next year and if he plays 20 games who knows.
Not as much risk with Reid. Best case he gets a full pre-season and plays. worst case he cant get his body right, retires or goes onto long term injury list mid season and we get a crack at mid season draft.
Hopefully Kelly can play some games - could be the forward Naughton became for Dogs. I also think Wilson and Kean will taste senior footy next year.
Id rather lock away Moore, deGoey, Grundy and Pendles and look at next year. Have an exciting academy prospect next year and it would be good not to use our first round pick on him so that becomes trade bait and we have Nick Daicos to look forward to the year after. |
Are you meaning Tohill and Keane ? |
No def Wilson and yes Keane.
Tohill received a bit of attention but from what I saw it was for opportunistic things that fell his way. I think he looks a fair way off as a forward. Keane looked like a gun at CFB however behind the ball positions are easier and it could be that Tohill is just as good.
Wilson, the basketballer , without a pre-season joining the VFL half way through the year showed signs of the natural football talent he had as a junior. I think with a fantastic pre-season and some confidence he could be seriously good. At 194cm he could be the forward we have been looking for. _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

Well, not much has happened (unless you think Buddy's injury is catastrophic), so I guess his answer is yes. |

Thor has just re-signed, so we will never resolve the question whether he was worth 5 or 6 first round draft picks. |
