With the injury to Mitch Marsh and various experiments (Henriques, Stoinis, Maxwell etc.) with the #6 and all-rounder spot, we could do worse than selecting the 20 y.o. Green.

In his short, 9 match, first class carer, he has 28 wickets @ an excellent average of 21.53

He debuted with 5/54 & 2/56 against Tassie, in 2017. In October, the following year, he returned 6/30 & 3/12, also against Tas.

In the SS match, just completed, he hit 87* at #8 for WA and was 121* at #9 as he helped his team to an stunning and unlikely draw against Q'land.

' "It wasn't until then that I understood how good he really was with the ball," [Ryan Harris], who has helped strengthen Green's bowling action, told cricket.com.au. "I knew he could bat, I'd heard a lot about that and just watching him I knew he was decent with the bat.

"But when I saw him bowl it was the first time in a long time I've actually thought, 'This guy is a genuine allrounder'." '

Cameron Green dampens hype around Australia prospects

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/28215290/cameron-green-dampens-hype-australia-prospects

"Green, 20, made his second Sheffield Shield century in three matches in a thrilling win over South Australia. He also has two five-wicket hauls in just 11 first-class games and is averaging 37.71 with the bat and 21.53 with the ball, although he hasn't bowled in the last two Shield games as a precaution after experiencing some back soreness earlier in the season. He already had a long history of back trouble and, at 200cm tall, he is being carefully managed by the medical staff.

Ponting told cricket.com.au that Green could be included in an extended squad against New Zealand, as a "left-field decision" to give the youngster a taste of the international environment without actually playing. This came days after Western Australia team-mate Marcus Stoinis said Green "could be the best allrounder Australia has had" during the match against South Australia.
...

Green, who was due to have another MRI on Tuesday, is still not bowling again and may have to wait until the BBL after experiencing back pain in the match against Queensland. He had fears of yet another stress fracture but the scans were clear.

"I thought it was pretty serious," Green said. "I've had three or four back injuries in the past that actually didn't hurt while doing everything else apart from bowling. This one, my back was actually pretty sore in the field and at home so I actually thought it was going to be a lot worse but the scan actually came up absolutely clear. My back was fine. I'm not really sure what was causing the pain but I was just sore."
...

But his run-glut this season comes as no surprise. He credits a minor technical adjustment, with a return to a more natural stance and set-up. Green is an extremely orthodox player and as a junior he batted with a traditional bat tap and late pick up, like his hero Ponting, but last season he veered away from that set up to stand still with his bat raised upon delivery which left him feeling a touch rigid."

Cameron Green ruled out of bowling due to stress fracture

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/28234074/cameron-green-ruled-bowling-due-stress-fracture

' "Follow up scans this week on Cameron's lower back have revealed the early stages of a lumbar stress fracture," Western Australia sports science medicine manager, Nick Jones, said. "This will require an extended period of rest from bowling to ensure the fracture heals adequately.

"No timeframe has been set for Cameron to return to bowling, however we are not expecting him to be bowling during the BBL. He will continue to be available for selection as a batter."
...

"I don't have an issue with his age, it's more about whether his body can cope and what he can do bowling, particularly in the allrounder category," Hohns said. "We know he's a very good bat, he is a fine up-and-coming young player." '

Another Sheffield Shield century for Green.

Soon Marnus, who is struggling at Shield level, will be asking him how he does it. Wink
(Answer: bat down the order, where it's easier.)

When you're (Labu) averaging 63.43 in Tests, it's hardly a problem when you average 41 in this season's Shield cricket.

Yep. But Marnus is probably more evidence for the Death of Test Batting. His non-Test first-class average is about 38. I don't know anyone else who's averaged >160% his 4-day cricket average in Tests.

It suggests Test batting is way too easy. The standard line of course is that Marnus is some sort of batting genius. It seems highly unlikely to me. He's played long enough for that 38 average probably to mean something. (And I doubt it means that Sheffield Shield bowlers would all be superstar Test bowlers.)

To me, Marnus probably establishes a pass mark among Oz batsmen. After all, they play the same bowlers at roughly the same time. (At 3, only two batsmen can claim they face harder conditions than he does.) Average lower than him as an Oz batsman and you have failed. That probably means all of his Oz teammates have failed since he came into the Ashes side.

But Marnus is a very handy cricketer all-round.

And maybe Green will be in the future too. Who knows?

As long as we lower our expectations perhaps.

We don't want anymore Great-White-Hope players, that vanish into the cricket abyss after one season.... James Muirhead, Lloyd Pope etc....

Understandable, Dyso.

Two aspects of this prospect: 1. Today, he batted @ a 44 strike rate to reach his century. Tick one box. Attitude. Patience.

2. Since reaching his ton, he just put the head down and continued. No celebratory boundary attempts.

146 n.o., so far.

He scored 197.

First class batting average: 52.23

Bowling: 28 wickets @ 21.53 (best innings figures 6/30) and a strike rate of 41.3

Has a shoulder niggle. Playing as a specialist batsman, so far, this season.

"Green has been touted as a future Test player almost from the time he claimed a five-wicket bag as a teenager against Tasmania in his Marsh Sheffield Shield debut four seasons ago.

That was before his batting talents fully revealed themselves but, having been prevented from bowling for the past year due to stress fractures in his lower back, he has shown himself to be one of the most exciting runs-scoring talents in Australian cricket.

But in the immediate wake of his career-high 197 scored against a near international-strength New South Wales attack in Adelaide this week, Green revealed he hopes to back and bowling at close to top pace for WA in their next game"
