"After a conspicuous silence in the wake of securing just 66 seats in Congress – down from 137 at the 2016 elections – PP chief Pablo Casado did an about-turn on Tuesday, after his strategy of moving the party to the right – mostly in response to the emergence of far-right group Vox – had obviously failed. Speaking to the press, Casado referred to Vox as the “ultra-right,” and announced a new campaign slogan: “Centrados en tu futuro,” which could be translated as “focused on your future,” but in Spanish has a clear appeal to the center voter, whom the PP managed to lose in Sunday’s vote."

Is it fair to presume that the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party will be forming a coalition government with the more left-wing Podemos? If so, that seems like a pretty good result.

After the coronation we find out who won the General election. By that I mean which generals got "elected" and those that missed out will be appointed anyway. They have kept there currency so artificially high that even the USA has told them to do something about it. Retired expats are leaving in droves, property can not be sold and the household debt is massive. But as long as they get their submarines , which are strategically irrelevant and the elite military get their kickbacks it is all good.

Probably, yes. Here's a quick summary: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/05/07/five-takeaways-spains-incredibly-fragmented-elections/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.9a9f355f3a28

ANC look like retaining power easily.

South Africa election: ANC leads as votes counted

Why has the ANC lost support?

Young people queuing to vote spoke of their difficulties in finding jobs, with unemployment at 27%.

One young voter said her future employment prospects were on her mind. "I don't feel confident about getting the job I want," she said.

"I'm a member of the ANC but I didn't vote for them this time," construction worker Thabo Makhene told Reuters news agency. "They need to catch a wake-up. The way they run the state, mishandling state funds, they've lost their morals."

Indian election reveals role of money as 43% of MPs face criminal charges

https://www.theage.com.au/world/asia/indian-election-reveals-role-of-money-as-43-percent-of-mps-face-criminal-charges-20190616-p51y6t.html

"Nearly 43 per cent of the new members of the lower house of Parliament that convenes Monday for the first time since the election won despite facing criminal charges. More than a quarter of those relate to rape, murder or attempted murder, according to a report by the civic group Association of Democratic Reforms.

The loophole that allows them to take office is that they have not been convicted - in part because the Indian legal system has a huge backlog of an estimated 30 million cases and trials often last decades. When asked about the charges against them, they invariably accuse a political rival of framing them.

Since such rivalries often lead to false accusations, the main political parties say it would be unfair to bar people from contesting elections unless they have been convicted by court."

No election, but Italy's governing coalition has just broken up, meaning that the country has switched from being run by a right-populist grouping of parties to a centre-left one.

European politics may look a bit chaotic from our vantage point, but I have to say I kind of like it.

Wrong David, it was a populist coalition of left and right. It's now an establishment leftist one. Italy is a political basket case and always has been. This government was a desperate attempt by left wing parties to avoid an election, not usually anything but a short term band aid that leads to greater losses later. It's Italy though so who the he'll knows Laughing

You're right – I probably oversimplified things somewhat there. Anyway, plenty of interesting analysis of the situation in the article. My guess is that this is not going to play well for the 5 Star Movement in the long run and that – as with the Lib Dems in 2010–2015 and the Greens in the Gillard government – power-sharing will turn out to be a poisoned chalice.

Israel’s gone back to the polls again after Netanyahu’s coalition broke down, and maybe, just maybe, the dragon may finally be slain.

Looks like secular Nationalists hold the balance of power and could go either way. Could end up with a weird situation like NZ where a Nationalist party sides with the centrists (Left in NZ, the left in Israel though is DOA).

Lots of weird issues and personalities at play though. Could even be another election in a couple of months too Laughing

It’s gunna be whoever can cobble together a coalition. There are lots of small religious nutter parties who get too many seats and wield far too much power disproportionate to their actual numbers

Everybody's favourite woke Canadian prime minister is ... in a bit of hot water to say the least:

About time that virtue signalling twat got a dose of his own medicine. With a federal election in a month, the Liberals on the nose and Trudeau with lower approval than Trump I'd say Canada is about to be the next Western country to swing to the Right after an overreaching progressive screwed things up.

Would be interesting to see if the NDP can make gains off them – they only got 20% at the last election and in some ways ran to the right of the (centre/centre-left) Liberal Party, but have managed to draw in at least a few leftists alienated by Trudeau's smarmy liberal progressivism.

Either way, I hope the Conservatives don't get back in. Stephen Harper's government was a pretty nasty one and his successor, Andrew Scheer, seems to be cut from the same cloth.
