'The barrister turned informer was burning the candle at both ends. She'd lost more than 40 kilograms and was often in tears. Some police suspected Ms Gobbo had a psychiatric condition. She worked long and "excessive" hours, and called her police handlers "at least" several times a day, seven days a week to pass on information about her clients. And almost every night she was out partying with those very same clients.
...

"On occasions when [police] handlers did try and draw away from and limit contact with 3838, such actions would invariably stimulate 3838 to become even more productive with offerings of intoxicatingly valuable information," he wrote.

"[Informer] 3838 can be described as a complex character, who despite frequent protestations about assisting police, seemed to have some form of addiction to the relationship and was committed to fuelling its continuance whenever scaling back or discontinuance threatened."'

Police 'forgot' to inform the royal commission about Gobbo's history as an informer

https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/police-forgot-to-inform-the-royal-commission-about-gobbo-s-history-as-an-informer-20190520-p51pda.html

"Victoria Police will not comment on why Mr Paterson, a highly-regarded officer who holds one of the most influential positions in the force, did not inform his superiors about his discovery of Ms Gobbo's 1995 registration more than half a year earlier.

Mr Paterson, who was not available to be interviewed, has not been disciplined over the affair."

Just a heads up to anybody with the interest and opportunity to watch the 'Lawyer X' Royal Commision.

Live streaming via this link: https://www.rcmpi.vic.gov.au/

Watched a bit of Paul Dale in the box yesterday. Other cops, bent or otherwise, under questioning today.

And, here we go: https://www.lawyersweekly.com.au/wig-chamber/26165-man-convicted-of-murder-to-walk-free-after-nicola-gobbo-revelations?utm_source=LawyersWeekly&utm_campaign=26_07_2019&utm_medium=email&utm_content=1

The judgment isn't yet on-line. I assume there will be written reasons for the decision. If there are, I will post the link in due course.

Here's an article about the verdict of acquittal issued out of the Court of Appeal this morning. The article contains a link to the submissions of the Respondent (that is the DPP) which set out the ridiculous circumstances of the case and concede that that the appeal must succeed.

Its back on live via the above link for anyone interested.

(notice the bald chap in the background sitting behind the counsel assisting. Could only be a copper - straight out of central casting)

Just noticed that hearings have resumed after a few week's break. Streaming live right now.

Police currently answering questions over their investigation of threats made to Gobbo.

(Question I have is where does the questioning barrister get her hair done?)

Live stream via this page for those who prefer to be informed first hand rather than through the various media filters: https://www.rcmpi.vic.gov.au/

(Note, these hearings frequently go into closed session and the live stream is blocked. So if you're interested check back from time to time and you'll find they eventually go public again).

Back on-line.

https://www.rcmpi.vic.gov.au/

And with new Picture-in-Picture feature, provides small video window in corner of screen while looking at other web sites.

Allows one to work while watching bent coppers lie under oath.
