This is my first post, but it won't be my last. I'm not going to divulge my age -- suffice to say I have been watching my beloved Magpies longer than most of you have been born. My friend and I were 5 years old when we began going to Victoria Park, and had to stand on a box to see over the fence. Vic Park was a very ordinary place back then.
I have a suggestion to put to all of you . . .
I think you would all agree that our best marking player is Jeremy Howe. Now that we have some stability in our back six with the inclusion of Moore (just love him) and Roughead, why don't we move Howe to FF or CHF and put Reid back in defence? If our centre players (so hyped up as the best in the comp) start playing to their undoubted abilities (Pendles always does) how great it would be to see the ball going down to Howe who takes a screamer and kicks a goal.
That's all for today. Look forward to reading your comments re the above. |

Three talls down back may make us too top heavy once the ball hits the deck.
None of us trust Reid's aging body to hold up the backline any longer.
Howe generally takes the third best forward, and can assist at ground level, Reid not so much; if it ain't broke - don't fix it? _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Great to see a new name to the list. Hope you have fun.
If you had of asked that a few years ago it was a no brainer - we recruited Howe with the idea of playing him forward and Reid was a mainstay in the defense. But now ...
Have to admit it would be fabulous to see the big spectacular mark before a goal in our forward line, but I for one would rather forfeit the spectacle in order to get a surer win.
I think Howie missed his calling in the forward line through circumstance - he's just too damn good back. _________________ We shall set our course by the stars and not ships that pass in the night |

Welcome to the asylum known as Nicks dollygray.
FWIW, here's my two bobs worth on your suggested changes.
Despite Howe being initially recruited as a forward, people tend to forget that we got him very cheaply because had not been a very successful forward, despite taking occasional screamers. He has blossomed into an A grade player only since being moved to defence, so I would not even consider moving him from there, especially as he is a lynchpin of our defensive set up.
As for Reid, he is really just a back up player now, available to fulfiul a role should a KPP become unavailable. Imo he is no longer in our best 22. |

Echoing Rudy's comments, welcome to the Asylum, the lunatics are definitely in charge.
On your comment on age, we do have a large population of geriatric old farts, so maybe welcome to the Nursing Home is more appropriate than Asylum
I also agree, Howe stays down back. Our forward line functions well with speed and diversity making it hard to match up on and we still have Elliot to fit back in.
It's far easier to take speccies playing in defence than up forward these days, so let him be our modern day Billy Picken standing on heads in the backline. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Welcome aboard D G.
Ever since Howe arrived at the club, there have been plenty who raised the idea of him going forward. For whatever reason, the club has kept him in the backline, even when it appeared we were in need of a marking target up forward.
He’s been excellent for us in the back half and I think anything that now involved him going forward would be seen as nothing more than robbing Peter to pay Paul.
The other reason could be that defence is more about structures and team defence. They spend 6 months a year working together as a team defence gaining each other’s trust and fully understanding each other strengths and weaknesses. The days of swapping a key pillar from one end of the ground to the other on game day are few and far between because it has the potential to upset the balance at the other end.
And With Reid being trialled as a forward throughout this preseason, I don’t see that swap happening anytime soon ( if at all ) |

Welcome to the lunatic asylum indeed...
I definitely think Reid is an option for defence, but not while our backline is functioning well. I was surprised that he wasn't put in the backline at some stage during those few games he was playing (particularly vs Sydney when we had Madgen in) _________________ I find your lack of faith disturbing |

We haven't had many games this year where we have had the game won by half or quarter time, but when we do I'd love to see us experiment with a few players in new positions. You never know what you might find out about a players potential. Mihocek is a great example of a surprise find. |

It’s always good to throw up options, but Reid down back is no longer an option.
Reasons:
1. We would be too top heavy. Moore has pace but Roughead and Reid lack it.
2. Reid is now seen as a fill-in player. This is now obvious after being dropped for Cox.
3. Hope it doesn’t happen, but he is one wrong step away from injury. Age has caught up with him.
4. This is probably his last year so what’s the point. _________________ Jatsad - That is all |
